Forums - General - Vatican comment on paedophiles draws gay groups' anger

The point I was trying to make is that it's not certain they actually had access to girls even. Historically, as far as earlier sexual abuse goes (unless you'd assume it's a very recent affair), catholic priests would have little to none contact with adolescent girls. In more recent cases - maybe. In orphanage cases, probably.

My mum went to a catholic school. So did her brother - to different catholic schools, and those were not mixed. My mum's teachers were mostly (if not exclusively, not 100% sure on that one) women. The opposite for my uncle (all men). A molesting priest at a boys school would have some difficulty keeping a 90% girls ratio. A molesting nun is more of a porn flick material.
That was in the mid 50s-early 60s.

However I still remember the local catholic choir from the mid-80s, and it was also an all boys choir. There was a mixed choir for the adults and probably a girls choir too. Well, that's about the last time I went to church and the last I remember, hence I was trying to google how mixed schools and similar were spread on a popularity timeframe.

'Vatican angers gay groupe'

is this news?

Aha! So the gays cleverly infiltrated the Catholic church and did naughty things to young boys in order to discredit the church. The masterstroke was when they coerced the church leadership into covering up these crimes rather than turn their criminal 'brothers' over to the authorities.

Well played, vast international homosexual conspiracy... well played.

I know you already have a sig, but this post, in particular the bolded, would make a brilliant sig!

If I said half the things that the pope has said, in England I would have been arrested. Lets hope this waste of oxygen gets what he deserves.

With comments like these it makes me glad Christianity is in decline in the UK
The Catholic church never ceases to amaze me

Still doesn't change the fact that the Catholic church has really awful human beings in their organization.

Maybe when you ban your priests from marrying, they develop awful desires like pedophilia?

I find it oh-so strange that we don't have these vast, world-spanning problems in the protestant church which has nearly the same membership as the Catholic church. Yes, there are pastors that do plenty of stupid things, but its rarely something as heinous as pedophilia. Usually, its consensual sex among adults (either adultery or homosexuality).

Doesn't that defeat the point? If they are married to God why would they need anybody else?

That doesn't sound right. The Protestant church is a good bit smaller than the Catholic church, if memory serves.

...Maybe they aren't really 'married to God' like they claim to be?

The Bible is pretty explicit in how to deal with marriage to God vs. marriage to people:

1 Corinthians 7:9 (New International Version)

9But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

That pretty much sums it up. If you cannot control your physical desires, there is a very simple solution. The Catholic church does not recognize the Biblically-based solution. Protestants as well as the apostles do, which fortunately allows us to have far less scandals of this kind of abhorrent behavior.

There are some people out there that are absolutely designed not to be married, and are perfectly psycologically fine from abstaining from marriage and sex. Jesus references them in Matthew 19:12 as being 'born that way'. However, the Catholic church has perverted that by tying up religious tradition into something that has virtually no place in true Christian living.

It really depends on how you define Protestant. I was using the very broad term including Anglicans, and Orthodox. Using such metrics, there are about 800-900 million Protestants (about 650m Protestants/Anglicans) + 250m Orhtodox and 1.1 billion Catholics.
