Forums - Microsoft - What happened to JoyRide?

Hey guys,

Do you know what happened to JoyRide? For those of you who don't know what JoyRide is: It is a free XBLA multiplayer game where you can compete with you friends and your Avatar is the actual driver. The game itself is free, but there is some DLC like extra tracks or cars that cost some money. The good part is that just one of your friends need to buy the content and you can play it too, even though you did not buy anything.

MS even bought the developer team behind JoyRide, Big Park is a MS 1st party studio. Joy Ride was announced last E3 for a 2009 (!!!) release.

Here is a trailer:

So do you guys have any Information about this game? Why has it been dealyed and when might it get a releasedate again??

Thank you!

Probably later this year.

Free? Well, doesn't really matter to me, I only have love for one Kart racer, and that would be Mario.

Edit: I just wanted to point out that this is post 2,002 for me, and that is a cool coincidence since this is Dirtyp2002's thread.

I made this acc in 2001 to make it futureproof. Well... that was shortsighted.

My personal opinion is that they are adding Natal functionalities to the title and it will release when Natal does.

At E3 2009, Microsoft confessed to the secret Xbox 360 exclusive that (then newly acquired) BigPark would create: Joy Ride, a free-to-play, Avatar-based racing game. As you might have concluded after it missed its holiday 2009 launch window, Joy Ride has been delayed until later in 2010, though Microsoft wouldn't share anything more specific.

The full statement to Joystiq reads: "We're thrilled to have unveiled Joy Ride at E3 2009, which will deliver a revolutionary gaming experience to the Xbox 360 community and put your Avatar behind the wheel. We're committed to delivering the most robust experience to the community and are taking additional time to ensure we provide the best experience possible. We're looking forward to launching Joy Ride in 2010. Stay tuned!"

With a slew of upcoming media events leading up to this year's E3, we're sure to hear more about the title in the coming months and see how the extra development time has been put to use.

that would make sense actually.

It will probably be part of this years summer of arcade , microsoft always has some great arcade titles at summer.

End of 2012 prediction:

xbox 360 : 73-75 million  playstation 3 : 72-74 million  wii : 104-105 million

Most hyped for :

Bioshock: infinte, The Last Of Us, Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Agent

I would imagine it will come out early summer as part of XBLA summer games.

Hmmm ..... that makes a whole LOT of sense.  Good call.

They said that they needed more time to polish it. Big Park also just recently moved it's studio, so that takes away some development time. Since it's free it should be promoted with summer of arcade making more people download it plus they'll have the discount if you buy all the games.
