With yesterday's official announcement of Gears of War 3 coming out April 2011, is Sony going to schedule one of its own shooter franchises to go head to head?

The first two Resistance games were both released in November and have faced off directly against Gears of War (and gotten crushed in sales).  Since Resistance 3 hasn't been announced yet, a Fall 2010 release is unlikely so perhaps it will follow Gears to April to renew the rivalry. The infamous R3 billboard is from Battle of Los Angeles which comes out February 2011.  That sounds like a perfet time to start an ad campaign for a big April release. 

Sony also has Killzone 3 which we already know is in the works.  April 2011 is just a little over 2 years since KZ2 came out so theoretically a sequel could be ready to go by then.  With Killzone's testosterone driven "Alpha Team" and jaw dropping graphics it is a logical choice to go up against Gears' Delta Squad and the excellent graphics that series is known for. 

What do you think Sony is going to do?  R3?  KZ3?  Or neither? 

Well a lot of people compared Gears of War 2 to Resistance 2 when they came out so I guess a Resistance 3 could do it.

If they did do a KZ3 GeoW3 then I'm guessing they'll be adding 3D to the mix to differentiate it even more, giving it more attention than KZ3 without 3D would get from mainstream media at that point.

They were only compared because they came out at the same time.  The games are nothing alike.  KZ has a bit more in common with Gears because of the 4 person squads filled with meatheads, the dark look of the game, and also the fact that they are both arguably the best looking shooters on their platforms (unless you consider UC2 a shooter). 

Nothing really.

Sony will have plenty of games to satisfied their fanbase.

But both Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 features an alien invasion! The overall story was kind of similar.

Why?  It's a perfectly logical question.  Seeing as how Sony has 2 exclusive shooters on the way that both could be ready by next April, it'd make sense that they release one of them at the same time as Gears.
