Would have God of War 3 sold better if no PS3 shortages existed?

God of War 3,one of the biggest franchises out there and there was big hype about this product. It is hugely popular in the US and a system seller for sure but because of the PS3 shortages it didn't have any impact.

Actually that week PS3 sales dropped alot lower to 85,491 PS3's sold in NA for the week ending March 20th.Everybody agrees Sony fucked up badly. It was a big opportunity for them to get PS3 into alot of people's house in US where they are suffering the most.Apart from people not able to play the game cause they don't have a PS3 and can't find one to buy,it also caused alot of bad publicity

I think they could have moved a significant amount of PS3 and GOW 3 copies.Vote and leave your comments regarding the situation

the poll options are both extremes... I'd say it would've sold a little more at launch, 'cause you have to take into account the people that were eager to play the game, couldn't get the console and got disheartened. Also, not everybody who COULDN'T get a PS3 last month wanted to buy GOW3, or even if they didn't get a PS3 THEN that doesn't mean they didn't get it now or later. So I'd say if more PS3s had been available for GOW3's launch (there were, just scarce) it would've sold relatively a tiny bit higher last month (perhaps 50K more?) I still say less than 900K is undertracking for the month. That game easily broke 900K, probably 1 million in march.

I think so, yes. But it will have good legs :)

I think it would have, and as for vg undertracking GOW3, how can we be sure it ain't like that for every game?

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

I already sorta typed this in another thread. At most GoWIII would have shifted sales forward by 50-60k. Those 50-60k would have come out of week 2, 3, or 4 (or even later) sales. GoWIII did not lose significant sales due to a week or so of it being impossible to find a PS3. Prior to that week and shortly after that week PS3's were reasonably easy to find. Obviously they were still in short supply and it depended on the area, but if you wanted the game outside of that 1-2 week window you could find the system with a bit of leg work.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Yeah people who wanted to buy the game and didn't find a PS3 would have bought it later but some people also forget about the game or kinda start hating they didn't get it and never get it.

Also alot of people also follow the hype and buy the game just because everybody else is getting it,just see how much Modern Warfare did because of it and if they can't find the system and hype dies down, they also don't buy it later

^especially if there's more (hot) games to buy: special offers, discounts, greatest hits, etc. etc.

LOL dont you mean "would the ps3 sold more units at GOW3 release if there was no shortage?"........

In a month it has sold 1.66 million. That is pretty impressive.

I think it could have reached 1.80 million if there were no shortages.

I agree that the poll options are too extreme. I DO think it would have sold better, but not significantly. I believe that God of War III performed pretty much the way it was going to, save for perhaps a few hundred thousand: 100,000-150,000 at most.

SPOT ON wat I thought it would have done a 100k to 200k more
