Forums - Microsoft - Announcing Alan Wake as a open-world game “was a mistake”

when they first announced it i was hoping it would be a better version of Alone in the Dark, that game had so much potential it hurts that it sucked too much.

To be honest, RE5 sucked worse. Alone in the Dark imo was the best of that type so far this gen. I enjoyed and thought RE5 was boring.

I'd much prefer a fantastic linear experience than a decent open world game. Alan Wake need's to be more like Dead Space/Bioshock than GTA4/Saints Row 2.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

2 words...Deadly Premonition. Makes both Alone and resident look like an excercise in polygon rendering and mediocrity.

Fair enough.

I do really want a sandbox survival horror though, but it doesn't seem Alan Wake would have been the right fit anyway, the type of survival horror I want doesn't need a story, and Alan Wake seems too story centric not to be ruined by the type of sandbox environment I have envisioned.

I will definately try it. My mate played it though and said it was really bad. He said he understood why Remedy decided against openworld. But then some here say they liked it. So I'll give it a go.

I know a few that took it back though.

I guess I shouldn't pointed out. That, beyond GTA: SA I have not liked a sandbox game. Err does fallout count as sandbox? or hmmm.

It is bad if you hope to see great hi res texture maping and incredible lighting with some nice particle effects. If you don't really care about technical aspects of a game, and are willing to play something original...you are in for a treat.

If you are a fan of Twin Peaks you will love this game.
