Im not an expert at making games or programming but i do wont to get into game developmet as a bit of a hobby (Im only in high school so i might take game development as a career). So i was thinking that a good way to get started at simplistic games like platformers and puzzle games would be to try and make a flash game. I had a quick look on the internet and all I found was sploder and gamecraft , both are very ameteur and are too simplistic. So I was wondering if anyone knew about any more proffessional (not too proffesional) websites or programmes that i could use to make flash games. I would prefer it if they where free but its okay if there not. Thanks.

IMO, leave flash alone or you're going to spend too much time on the artistic side of things. I think you should get your hands on QBasic and learn that, then make a simple text based number guessing game. After that you could move on to graphics and maybe create a simple 2D engine. If you get bored of QBasic, then you could move on to flash, after you've learned some programming.
I remember in grade 11 I made this awesome number guessing game, complete with highscores, bonuses, and an "AI" that suggested answers.

Oh, just in case you don't feel like learning to program, I'm pretty sure there are a few simple RPG makers out there.
