Six months ago, Sony launched the PSP Go in a desperate attempt to reboot the PSP brand. The sky is still blue. The grass is still green. The PSP still lags behind the Nintendo  DS. Even in Japan, where the PSP has traditionally seen a great deal of success, the PSP Go has struggled.

Enterbrain(parent company of Famitsu) CEO Hirokazu Hamamura recently spoke about the PSP's performance in a marketing seminar. Though he has high hopes for the upcoming Monster Hunter 3, he seemed pretty cynical of the PSP. Hamamura said the PSP was destined to be a platform that would only be viable in Japan.

Hamamura was particularly down on the PSP Go. He said that the revision was worse than the Bandai-manufactured WonderSwan. Hamamura said the system's cramped design scheme made it hard to play games, especially the popular Monster Hunter games.

Hamamura predicted that Monster Hunter 3 would be the best selling PSP game of all time, and expects the game to sell 5 million copies over its lifetime.

Many analysts are predicting that Sony will announce a successor to the PSP at the upcoming E3 expo in June.

Those are some harsh words about the Go.

The price wasn't right...and harsh words indeed.

If games you bought could be transferrable to other systems then I would've definitely gave it a thought. I would've also liked a more comfortable system, even my DSLite is a pain sometimes (those corners suck).

Harsh but very true words. And it does seem that the most viable market for the PSP is Japan and might be the only viable market for it rather soon. Although Europe is still seeing some good PSP sales, the American market has really been slowing as of late. Software is even more indicative of the differences between Japan and rest of the world when it comes to PSP. Luckily the PSP Go didn't hurt the brand of the PSP in Japan as that could have been devestating haha. But PSP has really made quite a brand for itself in the Japanese market and developer support has been great because of it.

Is it selling less than Wonderswan honestly?

in Japan it's not even slightly close, the PSP go is around 100k and is selling like 1k a week.  The wonderswan sold over a million i think.  They had some final fantasy ports for it, it had some success in Japan but the design wasn't all that good which is what the OP is talking about.
