Android is gaining market share, but not selling more phones. In Q1 of this year, Apple sold 8.7 million, while Android sold 5.4 million.

Anyway....

Again, I agree if the purpose of Apple is that when someone presses on a button in an iPhone app, that they want the Apple button to be the one that's pressed.

There are great reasons to want to keep that the case. But...

If two pieces of source code were to come across Apples Approval system, both identical text, and one gets approved while the other one does not, just based on how the user generated that source code, then I have a serious problem with Apple.

Ah, I was looking at some older stats that mentioned that android phones were selling faster. My fault for not keeping up to date with those.

I am not quite clear on who this whole things works as mentioned, but if it does indeed operate the way you lined it out, I'd have a lot more of a reason to complain about Apple. I know Adobe's flash compiler did something similar, but it also had its own code and everything as well. I need to actually read through the agreement and I haven't run into it, thuogh I'm sure it's public.

Also, did you see the new iPhone 4G that gizmodo got its hand on yesterday? They are changing the form completely! I liek it a little more noe because of all the extra buttons they say it has.

Yea. I saw the phone.

I am sure the phone is from Apple, and the screen and internals are the same that will launch, but there is a good chance that the form factor is not what the final product will look like.

All the buttons are round, and the device itself has all flat surfaces. This means it's very easy to machine. Most likely the package is just a container to hold all the parts, and not the production design. You don't want to spend a ton of money on the package if your not sure what's going in it.

I do like how it looks, but my guess is it will look a little different. If it looks the same though, then great!

P.S. I will be selling my iPhone and not replacing it, as I will have an iPad 3G + high end camera. So, I will get a cheep phone and save the $500 a year AT&T wants to take from me :). My wife loves her iPhone however, so we might get one of these for her.

Don't you still have to be paying for a data plan with the iPad 3G? I also thought it was still with AT&T. I might be thinking of the iPhone 4G, simply because it's 4G and the new functionalities, however I am absolutely in love with this android I have, and a qwerty is an absolute must for me. If the 4G can somehow outwegih the lack of a qwerty I will probably go back to the iPhone.

P.S. I recently learned about an ssh client for the phone, and it just blew my mind. It is absolutely amazing. I have a linux box with and ssh server hooked up to my TV, I can play movies for the girlfriend even if I am at a party on the other side of the city. I can also mess around with her and stuff while she is watching. Amazing stuff. I am also a fan of the tethering, even if the app isn't official and I had to go around funny ways of getting it on my phone, the feature is absolutely awesome.

I have an RDP client for my iPhone/iPad, so I get full Windows server desktop on my phone (and soon iPad). it's very slick.  It works great over edge too. They also make a VNC client, but I have little use for that personally.

I currently pay around $80 a month for my iPhone. That's voice+data. I don't talk on it very much however. Just a few minutes a day (some days not at all). So that's $960 a year. the iPad is $30 a month, so it cost $360 a year to AT&T. I can get a pay as you go cell phone, with 400 minutes for $25. Those minutes last 3 months. I can't see using 400 minutes in 3 months. Sometime I do talk to family for a while, but for those times I can just use my wifes phone. So, every three months I will just spend another $25. That's 100 a year for a phone.

So, the total it will cost me, is $460 a year, a savings of $500.

Here is a thread I made on my new setup:

The camera and bag are coming today, and the iPad on April 30th has now been confirmed.

So, in a few weeks I should have everything.

I should look into that.

I see, so it's the voice plan that's getitng the costs up. I used to be with Cingular and their rollover minutes and I was really happy. Then they got bought up by AT&T. Funny thing is that at the same time my phone/internet company also got bought up by AT&T, suffice it to say, I was not too happy.

Anywho, with rollover minutes, if you don't talk a lot, you can get the smallest amount and just have them roll over. Talking to people with AT&T also does not use up your minutes.

Here is an example of something on Android that kind of works like RDP. RDP is built into Windows, and this requires a desktop component, but the end result is about the same (aside from security. I would asume RDP has stronger options). I am sure there are some real RDP clients for Android. This was just a quick youtube search.

As for cost, it's a little of both. The data on my iPhone is $50 I think. There is no option not to have data, so it's hard to know what that cost is. So that's $240 a year. Voice is the rest.

The 400 minutes for 25 bucks thing is on the Verizon network. Not sure what the least expensive option for AT&T is, but I am sure it's more then $8.33 a month :)
