Cool: smallest Linux desktop PC, smaller than an apple (fruit)

Posted March 16th, 2010 by cool

Measuring at just 2 x 2 x 2.2 inches this is the smallest Desktop PC. And it's running Linux, one more point for Linux coolness.

THE SPACE CUBE:

Specs:
300 mhz atom
64MB of SDRAM
external video connector
supports 1280 x 1024 resolution.
Flash memory card slot
USB port
Ethernet
and a serial port.

LOW SPEC'S BUT STILL COOL.

That's already better than an ipad right there.

Oh man, I would LOVE to port Windows to that baby!

well it could run  windows CE on the thing because it's core is based on:

NEC VR5500A SOC chip...

so you could do something with it. it's just pretty cool.

I could probably get Windows 98 working on it. Its using an Atom processor running @300mhz afterall.

yea that is if it's truely an Atom processor, which it may very well be but since the page is translated it may not be, though if it is that would be cool because even windows 2000 could work pretty well. with 64MB of ram it would be pretty usable. 98 would be pretty fast even with all of the windows 98 updates..

this is still pretty cool just for the size of it.

when they said space cube they mean it!

I'd buy one if that was a VIA processor. They make low-power chips and extremely small motherboards (chipsets/form factors), so they just need a willing OEM.

yea they make pretty good pico ITX machines:

example:

i have built many of these for car's

they work great.
