Forums - Gaming - Do you like complex plots?

Kingdom Hearts is confusing as shit half of the time.

And it's my favorite game series ever.

i love complex plots, Planescape Torment being the perfect example, as long as they make sense!

This, Planescape Torment has the best story and writing ever in a videogame.

Now, some games are just convoluted and completely terrible. Xenogears, MGS2 and Xenosaga have terrible writing and mediocre stories. None of those are deep at all.

A lot of people will disagree with you on this one.

A lot of others will agree.

I watched yesterday this movie (won the 2010 Oscar for best foreign movie - should have won the Best Movie award, but anyway)

Seriously, it's impossible to say Xenogears or MGS2 or Final Fantasy [insert number here] have "great stories" after watching that movie. Or any game for that matter. Want to make a test, go watch that movie and see if you can say it.

But we are talking about games here.

Yes but not in every game. Just as long as it is done right. MGS series is a good example of complex storytelling done right. Modern Warfare 2 is an example of how NOT to do complex storytelling. Seriously, that shit made no sense what so ever.

I love the Planescape Torment story.

Other highlights for me include Persona 4, Final Fantasies VI, VII and X.

Im not sure if I would call those plots complex, but I do like how they keep evolving.

Final Fantasy X is the least complex thing in the entire world.

It's so linear and easy to follow I fell asleep halfway through the game.

How in the world is Kingdom Heart's storyline complex in any way that you would be confused? It had a very simple storyline.

FFX had several plot twists.  These include summoning the final aeon will kill the summoner, one of the guardians have to sacrifice themselves and become the next Sin, Tidus is a dream of the Fayth and will disappear after Sin is permanently defeated, Auron is an unsent who was killed 10 years ago by the start of the game by Yunalesca, and Sin is a repeating cycle started by Yevon and Yunalesca.

FFX has a complex story with that many plot twists.  The fact that the game had that many plot twists yet was easy to follow is good storytelling.

P.S. can't cover up the spoilers, tried to.

Let's see.....

If you think about the details, they make no sense. Why does the Organization have Kingdom Hearts when it's the heart of all words, not a bunch of hearts gathered together? Why the hell does the Riku replica have emotions? Why does Namine? Why do artificial heartless release hearts but not pureblood? Why the hell is Xemnas evil? Why does Riku change back to his normal self? And then there's all the shit with BbS's storyline that make no sense, but I can't spoit it.
