It's quite obvious that the context of the article involved the fight between ps3 and 360 for third party publishing support.  I'm not quite sure where the Wii enters in here?

Unless you think Microsoft has been paying off EA to keep Mass Effect away from Nintendo?

Pretending the Wii doesn't exist is head-in-the-sandism. I don't like PR from either Sony or Microsoft. So why would I give them a free pass?

I don't see how the Wii was relevant to the article at all, so how is he pretending it doesn't exist?

He simply pointed out that between the ps3 and 360, Microsoft focuses more on working with third parties while Sony focuses more on their first party efforts.

Here is the direct quote from Sony in the article:

"So rather than putting their money behind that, they've been going to Epic or Valve or BioWare to do what they did with Mass Effect, and that's where they throw their dollars."

What issues lies in this statement?

Because they do infact expend considerable time, effort and money on third parties. Its statements like that which make them hypocrites, especially when compared to Nintendo who have been accused of focusing too much on their first party titles to the expense of third parties. So yes, thats where Nintendo enters as a contrast to prove the hypocracy. Theres no point in splitting hairs because of a differing publishing policy. Even if their deals mean control over third party produced I.P. it still makes them deals with third parties even if the technicalities of the relationships make them 2nd party in publishing terms.

In addition to this once again, the most obvious reason why a bunch of new core games appeared at last E3 wasn't fantastic PSP software/hardware sales, it was probably publisher inducements. Something which they are going out of their way to appear to not be doing.

You're changing your argument.  What does any of that have to do with your initial statement:

Its funny that he ignored Nintendo. Is he afraid that his first party cadre of developers won't measure up? Thats probably true, its says quite a lot that they never mention how awesome their first party developers are in comparison to Nintendo.

Because you quoted something else entirely. I was infact responding to the title and OP together and I assumed that the statement "emphasizes first party strength" was in the unquoted body. I guess I was mistaken.

Tease.

Isn't that lovely? MS has gone on record saying they are emphasising getting 3rd party support, and Sony that they're focussing their yen on 1st party. Now there's no need for fighting

right??
