Forums - Sony - Sony Computer Entertainment Japan needs a wake up call? Very important

PsP is more relevant than Ps3 in Japan and most likely less expensive to make a game for and earn a profit. As long as The Last Guardian and GT5 get a release date this E3 i'll be happy with SCEJ. And hopefully L5 can find a different IP then WKC

Around the Network

I agree that SCEJ have languished behind both SCEA and SCEE over the years. SCEJ used to be the largest contributor to Sony's software portfolio, but after the formation of Team Ico, the formation of Team Siren, and teaming up with Level 5, they seemed to have stopped growing entirely.

They've done very little in the past ten years, meanwhile SCEA purchased both Naughty Dog and Zipper Interactive, substantially grew Sony Santa Monica, and created relationships with numerous developers like thatgamecompany. Over the same period SCEE purchased Guerrilla Games and Evolution Studios, formed a great relationship with Media Molecule, eventually leading to acquisition, and formed close ties with Quantic Dream.

SCEA surpassed SCEJ's output in the early 2000s, and only grew from there. SCEE somehow went from being the weakest of the three to roughly equaling SCEA through their recent moves. All the while SCEJ has remained stagnant, showing little to no growth. This is especially disappointing for a guy like me, that buys Japanese consoles first and foremost for Japanese games. I love Uncharted and Killzone, but give me more quirky, Japanese awesomeness, Sony!

I will compliment SCEJ on one particularly great decision, however - whoever thought it was a good idea to work with From Software on a King's Field revival is a genius. Demon's Souls is my favorite RPG of all time, and in my top 10 games of all time.
