Dont want to update but still be able to use PSN
OK just had a few games of wipeoutHD so I can confirm it is working properly even if i try to update it says the latest firmware is installed, so some proper instructions are in order.
You'll need a pc on the same network as your PS3 (preferably the same subnet too if you don't know what that means don't worry about it).
1. On your windows PC download and run http://www.easy-share.com/1905181344/LG5tool.rar
2. If it crashes with a 'mswinsck.ocx' error download and install http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/libraryfiles.exe
3. Check the firmware update box and click start proxy, windows should prompt you to add port 8080 to your firewall.
4.It'll show your pc's ip address write it down as you'll need it for your ps3
5. Goto the network settings on your ps3 and set them up as they normally are only select 'use proxy'
6. enter your pc's IP address
7. select your usual upnp setting
8. test your connection
9. you'll be able to access the internet but not the psn at the minute try signing in and you'll get the usual error.
10. Go back to your pc and uncheck the firmware update check box, you should notice that it'll say 3.21 at the bottom now
11. Now you can sign into the PSN as normal your pc needs to be running the LG5Tool.exe though
This isn't my hack it's been around for ages btw but it is untracable as the computer catches the data going to and from the net and inserts the fake firmware version number in the data transmissions, pure genius.
