Forums - General - Have you ever been involved with a cult

Boy, have I ever. I only exist because my parents met in a cult. Some insensitive assholes even have the gall to call me a cultbaby.

Just think of how many points cultbaby would be worth in Scrabble.

I've been bugged by Lyndon LaRouche people. Not exactly a cult but they act like it.

Yes. I knew this Mormon girl once she snuck out to hang out with my group of friends. To get her out of trouble we had to go to a meeting once a week at their house when the missionaries from utah were in town. That wasn't so bad but they did try to get us to join "the latter day saints" In Jan. I drove through utah and stopped in Salt Lake for the night. In the morning I went to the temple to check it out because it was a few blocks of where I stayed. It really is a cult. Those people were a cult and the funny thing is the family is screwed up now. The kids went to Utah for their missionary stuff and they never were the same. The daughter is now a crazy wicca named silver wolf or some shit

My window washer was the leader of the Scientology group in Melbourne, he actually left these two books over our house once. I know one was called Dianetics and I can't remember the name of the other one. All I tried to do was start some friendly conversation with him and off he goes about his Church and stuff, so he left the books and picked them up about a month later and we never called again.. (that's probably rude though).

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

My only interesting story comes from desecrating (scratching out using a pen) the bible of several Jehova's Witnesses when they had to balls to actually point to a passage that allowed them to knock on my door at 7AM on Sunday.

By the way, they always skipped my place since and I was very peaceful for the remainder of my time there.

I understand it was rude but it was well deserved.Even Jesus didn't bother getting up on Sunday.

Yes, I grew up Lutheran.

Can one explain how Opus Dei is a cult?

Don't get me wrong, their both catholic and very conservative, which is 2 strikes against them, but at least from their Wiki entries, it would seem that (for the most part) they seem non-cultish, but certainly open to abuses.

@CommomMan - I don't think Lutheran is a cult.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

You ever been to a service when everyone is chanting the Nicean Creed? Throw some black robes on people and there would be no way to tell it apart from some scary cult. To me, religions are just cults that have really big followings. Cults typically don't have any weirder ideas than some of the stuff in the bible, it's just the bible has a larger acceptance. That is the only difference.

If Christianity wasn't as wide spread and popular it would also be considered a cult.

Just saying...
