I'm going to be playing both. I'm really into watching MMA (though to be honest, it sometimes bores me. GSP is a great fighter but I'm sorry, I don't find GSP fights lately fun to watch). I watch MMA from all kinds of promotions. UFC, Strikeforce, DREAM, Sengoku, WEC, etc. I used to watch Pride FC when they were still around (my favorite promotion). I watched Affliction, Elite XC, IFL, etc. when they were around.
Even if you guys don't recognize the names in EA Sports MMA, you should check it out because EA really knows fight sports. THQ/Yuke's on the other hand don't have much fight sports experiment. They mainly do Pro Wrestling games. I played Fight Night Round 4 recently and it was really well done. I suspect MMA 2010 (which will feature right stick total strike control like Fight Night) will have better gameplay than Undisputed 2010. And the game does feature some recognizable names like Fedor and Randy Couture. I know people love to hate on EA but they do make quality sports games. I played Don King Prizefighter recently (Take Two's boxing game) and honestly Fight Night Round 4 blows that out of the water.
I liked Undisputed 2009 but the striking in that game seemed stiff and robotic compared to the realistic and fluid striking in Fight Night. And the furious right stick wiggling stuff for submissions was stupid. The overall ground game in Undisputed 2009 was also lacking. Still an awesome game and I don't regret playing it one bit and will play 2010 no doubt but as a MMA fan I was expecting more from Undisputed 2009.
Also, UFC is not the name of the sport. MMA is the sport. UFC is a promotion. I imagine it's easy for casual fans of the sport to not realize the distinction.
Also are you guys going to watch Fight Night tonight and Ultimate Fighter? Tonight is Takanori Gomi's debut in the UFC. This guy was balls to the wall awesome in Pride FC. He's got real KO power, he's got a great sprawl so he can keep it up on the feet. He has been in a slump though for the last three years. Hopefully he'll regain form and his competitive drive in the UFC. He fights Kenny Florian tonight. Gomi at his peak ability would probably KO/TKO Florian. Let's see if he'll return to old form. Gomi wasn't very motivated fighting lower-level competition in Sengoku and he was cocky when he fought Nick Diaz. Fighting a great competitor like Florian will light a firecracker under Gomi's ass. I think he's going to have a good showing win or lose.
I'll be watching Ultimate Fighter tonight but I'm not too excited about this season. Liddell vs. Ortiz again? I understand that Liddell isn't the fighter he used to be but the same can be said about Ortiz. Liddell should KO/TKO Tito again for the third time.
And man seeing Carwin KO Mir like that was a sight to behold. Mir doesn't like to get hit and he doesn't have a good chin though so it's not too surprising. Carwin is going places though. I hope he knocks out Brock Lesnar.
As for Thiago Alves, isn't he already in UFC 2009 Undisputed? I could be wrong but I could have sworn he was in 2009.
Also m1987mp, I can't believe you are buying into that crap Dana White said about EA. EA started work on their MMA game since 2008, a year before UFC 2009 came out. Randy Couture signed a contract with EA in 2008 to appear in their MMA 2010 video game. That's why you don't see Randy Couture, an active UFC fighter, in UFC 2009 and UFC 2010. If they signed Randy Couture to a contract before UFC 2009 was out, how the hell can Dana White say that EA is putting out a game to milk off UFC 2009's success? He's just talking a bunch of smack because he wants you to buy his licensed video game and not EA's video game (which isn't UFC-licensed). Dana White is just full of hot air.
