Forums - General - The iPhone killer? HTC Evo 4G 'Superphone'

I thought this phone deserved its on thread.

By and far it has the most beastly specs of any phone out there. Sprint looks to have the rights to the phone, which would mean that it may come to Verizon at some point.

Specs:

  • 480x800 4.3" TFT LCD
  • 1GHz Snapdragon Processor (same as a Nexus One)
  • 1GB Onboard memory
  • 8GB MicroSD
  • 8MP Rear Camera (720p for video)
  • 1.3MP Front Camera
  • HDMI Out
  • 4G
  • Android 2.1

Crazy. Makes my HTC Dream look like a piece of trash. I'm glad, though, that Android has been getting a lot of nice phones as of late between the Droid and Nexus One, now this.

I want this so very bad. I hope Apple doesn't win any cases against them and I have always found the Android phones more likeable than an iPhone, I dunno why.

Having tried 3 different HTC Android offerings (G1, Dream, Eris), I agree. I've really enjoyed HTC and their alliance with T-Mobile.

My fiancee has a HTC Dream/MyTouch with infinite web, text and 200 minutes for $10/mo. You can't get a better deal than that- She's really happy with the phone.

My only objection is that I HATE using a touch screen for texting. That's why I went with the Droid with a keyboard

The 4G and 8MP camera with 720 video recording is just freakin unbelievable.  All that on a phone is crazy!

Swype my friend. Swype.

To be honest, I've found using a virtual keyboard to be pretty decent.

I can't stand it.  I tried using it on an iPhone and on the Blackberry Storm.  I can't stand using it on my Droid if I'm driving and can't open the keyboard, either.  Guess the touch screen and my thumb don't get along very well when it comes to texting

I am getting this day one, I have a HTC Hero, absolutely love it.

They also have another phone coming out soon called the HTC Legend, this beats it in a few features though.

@Nightsurge
If you think that camera is impressive you should see some of the Sony phones they have available in Europe. I think one has a 12MP camera on it.

That's just ridiculous...  *faints*

My camera is 11MP and doesn't support 720p video capture, yet these phones do.   Really its the 720p video capture that shocks me the most with this phone.  I would die for a device capable of HD video capture (provided it is also good quality lighting and whatnot).

Oh, no! A second Android device in the 'superphone' market. How will any other manufacturer compete when HTC and Google have 100% superphone marketshare?

Sorry, the 'superphone' BS sticks in my craw. It's a marketing stamp for a predictable increase in hardware power, not a bold new business sector.

Anyone know how much money will one of these set me back?
