Forums - Sony - PS3 didnt sell much in U.S. during God of war 3 week

These shortages suck. Without them, Sony would have definitely outsold the 360 in the U.S. I know Sony could have sold a lot of HW if they had a GoW3 bundle for its release in America. But, oh well. I'm sure Sony is working on addressing the issue soon. Can't wait to see Europe's numbers.

It isn't really "hurting" them since each PS3 sale is a loss, and since God of War 3 sold more than most people expected, if anything they've gained more money than if they had sold more PS3s as well.

But in terms of positions, yeah, it's hurt them I suppose, although the PS3 is a lost cause in the US anyways, the gap is just getting bigger and bigger...

The gap is lesser now than a year ago you know. Even in the last 2-3 weeks with the sold out, it almost sell same numbers.

I think the only (big) hardware mover Sony has is GT5. That franchise is HUGE in Europe.
And yes, I've heard ps3 has shortages.

actually, it's possible that they are close to breaking even. 1 Game sale and a dualshock controller should put the console into the positive, but there's no actual proof of that yet.

What confuses me is why did PS3 sell LESS than last week, when Sony said they would ship MORE PS3's for GOW3? Unless we won't see that effect until next week?

sony really dropped the ball this 1st quarter of this year and probably will continue till the summer

its probably money issues there could be a issue with the current slim model for them to making the new lighter ones so quick or it costs more to make the older slims so they didint want to make a whole bunch of the older slim skus and sell them at a loss if the new ones a cheaper to make

I'm pretty sure there was something posted recently about their contract with the case maker being expired. If so, they had to renegotiate, find a new manufacturer etc etc. They also might have substituted parts, or waited on a new contract until new parts hit the price point they wanted etc etc.

HW shortages in a week where the big release is an exclusive is not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. If you want to play that game then you need the system too.

It was more important for PS3 to be in reasonable supply for FFXIII launch. Because if you're in the market for a console and you want FFXIII then you have 2 options. If one option is eliminated because of lack of HW availability then you're down to only 1 option.
