i'm actually glad tekken 6 was multi-platform so people would realize what a shitty fighting series it tekken really is. The only reason it was hyped, or even praised as a good game was because it was PS exclusive. The game should return to being PS exclusive once again, no one would care either way.
Wow. I'm a bit shocked. So many Tekken fans in here, and not one person has said or seems to know why Tekken was delayed. How is it that I hate Tekken, and still know this from the one time the news passed by this site over 16 months ago? Anyways, Tekken 6 was delayed only partially because it went multiplatform. The real thing that took time was that the Tekken 6 that got released on consoles is not Tekken 6 at all. At least not the Tekken 6 that came out in arcades in Nov. 2007. Tekken 6 for consoles is actually a game called Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion that got released in Oct 2008 in arcades, the same time it got announced that Tekken 6 was going multiplatform and would be based on this new arcade game. The last time they had an enhanced version of a Tekken in arcades, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, it took 7 months to port it over to the PSP.
To answer the question, Tekken should just die altogether. The mentality going into Tekken is to push the masses away and pull in the highly dedicated fighting fan. If you want to make Blazblue type of money then that's fine. If you want Tekken to strive as the giant it once was, it will never happen and Namco should end the series altogether. There wasn't even a large effort in making the game. Concentrating solely on the PS3 wasn't going to fix that. I've played the arcade version. It's not breathtaking either, and the 360 can't be faulted for that. As others have stated, Namco used a small team to produce one of their largest titles of the year. Plus they had to port it down to the PSP too. They also managed to under perform in comparison to Soulcalibur IV and that came out years ago...and it's multiplatform! If Soulcalibur IV can work in Summer 2008, there's no reason for Tekken 6 to look the same and play worse in Fall 2009.
Now there is some truth to the exclusive tag bringing about a dedicated Sony fan audience that will chew on whatever has that label attached, but that would never have fixed the in game issues. They would have still been prevalent. It could have recouped the 700K possibly through the word of mouth from the exclusive zealots, but ultimately it still would have been the same Tekken 6 and it still would have been delayed until at least Summer 2009.
