Forums - Gaming - COD4 dev put its "best coders" on PS3

"We had our best programmers on the PS3 [version of Call of Duty] and it shows," Infinity Ward studio head Vince Zampella has bellowed. He's been explaining why Sony's edition has a bigger online capacity (24 max players vs 360's 18) and, according to those with cyborg-eyes, improved visuals.

"We had two separate teams working on both versions from the start," Zampella says, "Most developers only focus on a single platform, then quickly port the game over to another one. You don't get very good results that way".

Zampella was speaking to PSM3 magazine as part of a feature examining PS3 game delays. His words should give Sony fanboys some much-needed ammo. Grab a copy of the Christmas edition of PSM3, issue #95, on sale from tomorrow, for the full exploro-feature.

Is it 24 players for the PS3 version?  Just curious since I never knew of this.  This is a great game if it allows for even more people online that is pretty cool though I wouldn't go more than 24 as after that it feels too crouded or hectic for me.  I have the 360 version and most nights I have 6-8 friends on so 18 is pretty good as well since we end up doing alot of 6v6 or 8v8 which is more fun then having an extra number of ramdon people.

According to my game's box it says "Network players 1-40"... :/

I've just finished single player as regular. I have to say game is simply amazing and it deserves so high score. It's worth every single cent. Extremely intensive and fun FPS.

BTW... I don't find granades as annoying as other posters here. Maybe it's getting nasty when the difficult is set higher.

When you try to crawl under a truck only to have six(6) grenades immediatly land right next to you, I think you will agree that it is somewhat of a problem. Particularly when 2 or 3 of them were thrown from 50+ yds away.

To Each Man, Responsibility

wait...so the CoD4 on the two most powerful consoles only allows 18/24 players? But, the Wii version of MoH:H2 has 32? HAHAHAHA. ok. Sorry for trolling. That just seemed odd to me.

What difficult have you played? On regular granades really aren't an issue. I die mostly because of granades but I didn't find it annoying... I didn't crawl under the truck though... if we exclude sniper mission.

So what does this mean? Infinity Ward likes the PS3 more? Or they knew it was going to be more difficult to program for and put their best on it to make sure it wasn't crap? Aren't both games really identical?

Is the game better than, say, Battlefield 2142 for the PC? Just a thought.

The game is amazing. That's all you need to know.

Take that Infinity Ward 360 programmers.
