Forums - Sony - Why does the actual Yakuza allow the making of the Yakuza games?

@Severance, kowenicki

The American Mafia aren't active anymore and if they are, they don't hold a lot of power. Yakuza are still until now extremely influential in all Japanese affairs, even in legislation.

@everyone

But despite the influence of Yakuza, they are still labeled as outlaws. Isn't having a game that exposes stuff about your criminal activities dangerous?

The Yakuza are hush hush???

Yakuza is funding SEGA money to make this game since it portrays
Yakuza as a badass criminal organization xD

That argument might be valid if we were discussing a documentary portraying actual Yakuza operations and personnel. Yakuza games and movies are in no way telling anything everybody wouldn't know already. Yakuza is very open about their identity and existence. Some Yakuza organizations even have public offices which mafia or other western criminal offices would never have.

Also, the games and films are portraying Yakuza in a very romanticized manner.

Paid by the alliance
to slay all the giants.

I think with these games they might get some new recruits also.

And thats nothing new, we have Mafia,Gta:s and such...Its not like USA can stop making USA based war games.

Its just a game, I don't think they give a shit.

I think you overestimate the power of the yakuza. Also, they probably enjoy the games as much as everyone else.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

They probably like playing Yakuza games the same way the mob apparently loves films like The Godfather.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

If i recall Yakuza's arent secretly quiet.

And as many others posted, if there can be movies and games of many criminal organizations i dont think this game makes any difference.

The only time I recall a 'secret incident' in regards to media and a criminal organization was Rush Hour 3 with the Triads. Apparently the script of it gave away too much information about the Triads that it wasnt allowed to be shown in China. Rush Hour 2 was also about Triads, but as you can tell that was more fun-script written that it was okay to show in China.
