Forums - Sony - Is demon souls the right game for me?

I honestly don't see why people think this game is as difficult as "everyone" says. Have people played the game?

Only things that makes the game a little more difficult than most other games of similar type are pretty minor.

1) The medium used for purchasing weapons, repairing weapons, buying items and increasing your attributes are the same. There is no "exp" and "gold", just "souls". This isn't that difficult of a concept.

2) There is no selling of items for souls. Again, simple concept and it makes the game a little more difficult. The only way you're gonna get that weapon you want it to go kill some enemies, you can't sell your loot.

3) When you die, you lose all of your current souls. Other games have similar mechanics (you lose some "exp" or "gold") but never quite as bad as losing everything. If you can make it back to where you died, you get all of your souls back. On the bright side YOU KEEP ALL OF YOUR ITEMS EVEN IF YOU DIE. Thus, you're as powerful as were the first time when you go back to get your body (or maybe more so if you found some good items on the way). Only difference is that you have more knowledge now and you have less expendable items (you don't get healing items, arrows and the like back).

Seriously, you get all of your weapons back!

4) When you die, the "instance" respawns all enemies. Yep. So, if you're in a level and you die and you want to go through to get your souls back, you have to go through the whole level again.

Luckily though, there is no randomization. The enemies all do the same thing and are in the same location. So, if you learn your lesson when you die and have a good memory, this isn't terribly difficult. It is more difficult than if the enemies remained dead, but it's not that difficult SINCE YOU KEEP YOUR LOOT.

Also, most levels have a lever to pull or some mechanism which opens up another section of the level, like opening a gate. When you die, the gate remains open thus you can circumvent redoing a large portion of the level when you die.

5) There is no "quick save" so to speak so that you can save at a certain point and reload your game if you mess up. You can "quick save" in the sense that you can leave the game and come back to the same point you were at previously.

The game can be frustrating because you can and will die easily and often from "noob" enemies, not just bosses, but once you get to know how the enemies behave and since there is no randomization in the enemies stats or placement, it's trial and error.

If they wanted to make it really difficult, they could have randomized stats on some enemies as well as placement.  They could add immunities to certain enemies.  They could make it so that when you die, you lose all of your souls and your items.  That would be pretty crippling.  If they wanted to make it absolutely insane, you'd lose all of your stat points along with your souls too, but that's crazy talk.

The above is "why" people find it difficult and get frustrated, like I said, you need to learn the enemies, but you will die a lot as you go through the game, if you do not learn from your mistakes, you will repeat them, and will lose all your souls, I know a few people who stopped playing after they died when trying to get their souls back..

Also - sometimes you bite off more than you can chew with the guys, the (can't remember if it was a blue eyed or red eyed knight in first level) totally raped me, and I tried to get my souls back and failed miserably... that sucked..

Sssshhh... Altus may be listening, and may incorporate the above ^^  - Though Random stats and immunities would be really really cool :)  Or if they managed to do a Diablo thing (random dungeons) that would be cool as well, as well as sadistic lol

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

I've heard it compared to Everquest. If you played that, you may like it. I however, am not interested and will not be buying it.

I have this game but never really played it. So If I die and go back to get my souls but die along the way, are my souls gone forever? Also whats a good class to start with?
