Google stops censoring search results in China

Google has stopped censoring its search results in China, ignoring warnings by the country's authorities.

The US company said its Chinese users would be redirected to the uncensored pages of its Hong Kong website.

In January, Google had complained about a "sophisticated cyber attack originating from China".

Chinese government officials had warned Google repeatedly that it would face consequences if it did not comply with the country's censorship rules.

so china will just censor the google hongkong site by themselve ?

Time to Work !

What does the cyber attack have to do with censoring?
And what can the chinese do to google with out starting a major international incident?

China will almost certainly block google.

And the cyber attack was suspected to be done by Chinese authorities. Google got pissed off and this is them retaliating I think.

Good for Google.

I hope it hits China hard.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Awesome. It doesn't matter what Google's motives were, the effect is ultimately good: if China wants censorship, they can't have the benefits of the web and the freedoms it is built on.

Great news. Its nice to see that at least one company is refusing to do business with China on China's terms.

awesome news!

Yay, some good news these days.

I have to give a big high-five to Google for this. And anyone else find China's threat kind of odd? I mean...what are they going to do? Murder someone?
