PS3 launch festivities in Philippines detailed

Although the Playstation 3 was first released in 2006, the high-definition video game system still hasn’t been released in the Philippines. That is about to change, however, as Sony is planning to bring the Playstation 3 to that territory on March 27th. 

The Filipino branch of Sony has provided a list of launch festivities to accommodate the arrival of their system. Activities include Cosplay, where fans dress up as their favorite video game or anime character to participate in a fashion contest or take it one step further by creating a 2 minute fight scene. There will also be competitions for Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PSP) and Ridge Racer 7. Prizes compose of a brand new PSP and Playstation 3 systems.

Finally, the first 100 consumers who buy the Playstation 3 will get discounts for games and accessories. All the festivities will be held at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City, Metro Manila from March 27th to the 28th. For the full details, go to this link.

I wasn't even aware that it hadn't officially launched in the Philippines yet. Nice to see Sony branching out into new markets.

Could have sworn there was a member on this site that posted about a FF13 launch event in Manila. My wife is from the Phillips she'll find this interesting.

It's pirate city there to say the least tho.

these are markets heavily infested with piracy and pirating. the only reason why sony is bringing the ps3 to these markets is because blu-ray and the ps3's security. really who in these third world countries will have pcs's and internet connections fast enough to burn blu-ray movies, games, etc.? then add the fact that now they have to past the ps3 security to even get those pirate games to work. since the ps3 is cheap to make and very safe from piracy its only smart sony increase its user base and profit by bringing it to other markets.

Third world? I'm half filipino and have been to the Philippines many times - they are not THAT poor of a country. Believe it or not, people do have very good internet connection in the Philippines and almost everyone I know there has a PC and half-decent ones at that. Piracy is a problem in the Philippines, and I'm not saying it's right, but you would be surprised at what Pinoy people can do on their PCs.

Anyway, good they finally get a launch, even though they were the first country to have video proof that that PS3 slim actually existed.

You can't play pirated games on the Playstation 3. If you could, I'd probably be playing them right now...
