Forums - Microsoft - Tech Analysis | Splinter Cell: Conviction (576p, 2xMSAA)

Yeah, I didn't think it was sub HD. A google search found that it is 768p. So 4/10 for PS3, and 5/10 for xbox ;)

I still hate sub HD games. How hard is it to make a game HD at least 720? Uncharted, god of war, gears of war, mass effect 2. All games with stable frame rates at or above 720p >.> Also all pretty sexy looking.

1024x768 >>> 1024x576

not even comparable

1024x768 (2xAA, temporal)

That's sub HD?

Yep.

Halo 3 = 737k pixels

MGS4 =  786k pixels

Which are both below

HD 720P = 922k pixels.

MGS4 is closer to Halo 3 which is undisputedly sub HD than it is to HD.

Tease.

Its comparable, the horizontal resolution is the same.

Tease.

It's running at the same resolution as the 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII with v-sync disabled. Really disappointing for one of the most anticipated games this year.

Ok, anyone want to confirm it looks HORRIBLE?  If not, then who cares if it is 576p?

Anything below 1920*1080p is not true HD. 720p is not even HD. The game can be upscaled to 1920*1080p on a HDTV. The natural resolution of most games is hardly ever in 1920*1080p. You need a Blu-Ray for true HD.
Natural resolution for Splinter Cell: Conviction is only 1024*576p

1280*720p is not true HD. It is actually SD. HD resolution starts at 1920*1080p

wow....... just.... wow... I don't know how to respond to something like this

I don't get it, for an exclusive game, none of this should be happening.

4 things could have happened:

1: the engine is crap and is hampered by performance issues, well at least for the way that UBI has implemented the engine for this game.

2: This game was initially designed to be multiplatform, but when exclusivity was negotiated they continued work with the same engine and didn't bother to cater to the 360's strengths by creating a new engine.

3: This game is going to the PS3 as the 360 only has timed exclusivity, so to have parity with the unreal engine which we all know runs like ass on the PS3, they were forced to make specific sacrifices on a technical level to achieve their goal.

4: UBI programmer don't know squat and have managed to brake a perfectly working engine that's well suited to the 360 hardware.

Personally I thinks it's a little bit of each of the 4 options.

This game is going to need a lot more graphics if it's going to have any chance of success!
