*Still in construction*
Just wanted to do this for fun. I enjoy listening to video game music, and JRPGs have such beautiful songs in them. I just had to let you guys know!
Here's my Top 10 list, in no specific order though. Some of the styles are too different to even compare them (one's a ballad, one's more "hyper", etc.). I know I'm probably missing a few JRPGs like Grandia II, Suikoden II and Earthbound, but these are the songs I remember the most so it must mean something eh! Here it goes:
-------------
Star Ocean: The Last Hope - A Place for Reflection
It just sounds so heroic. Also, reminds me that space is so grand, and we haven't even seen a quarter of what's in it or what it's about!
Secret of Mana - Phantom & A Rose
That song reminds me of sad moments, but at the same time it calms me. That's about it. o_O
Chrono Cross - Termina
This one is fast-paced, but at the same time it reminds me of summer and all the festivity that's going on during that great time of the year. Can't wait to go swim!
Final Fantasy VIII - Breezy
Reminds me of one song my dad composed for me. I have strong feelings for this song, plus it's really peaceful.
Chrono Trigger - Peaceful Days
One of the first songs you listen to in the game, and it's one of the best too! I have nothing to say about this one really, just listen to it if you haven't already.
Final Fantasy XIII - Boss Battle Theme
One thing I'm glad to see in this game is that the music is incredible. Definitely one of my favorite FF games when it comes to the soundtrack. There's one part in the song that reminds me of FFXII's music style a bit (I wonder, is it the same composer?). Love it, and I'm sure there are even better songs later on in the game. Chapter 11 is just enormous...!
Persona 4 - Corner of Memories
Simply incredible. No words can describe this music to me. It makes me feel good for some reasons I can hardly explain... maybe the melody has a good vibe to it. It's not a big game with big production values like Final Fantasy and most Square JRPGs, but that game had a lot of heart into it.
Final Fantasy X - Movement in Green
Well no, this is not "To Zanarkand". That music gets thrown around too much, haha. Still, this one incorporates the same great theme that is used in the whole game.
The Last Remnant - Old Traditions, New Methods
This is one of the most underrated JRPGs ever. This game was so different compared to the rest, but the gameplay seemed a lot more "mature" to my eyes. You had to think about everything in that game, I loved it. Also, the soundtrack is one of the best around. Check it out if you can.
Lost Odyssey - A Sign of Hope
I don't have to explain this one. Lost Odyssey is amazing. Funny thing is, the dreams were probably better than the main game's story!
-------------
So that's it. Most of these songs are from recent JRPGs, which is not surprising to me. Orchestrated music is almost a necessity now, and it just sounds better than 8-bit/16-bit songs, what can I say!
Post your favorite "beautiful" JRPG songs too, I want to listen to them!
Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
