Forums - Microsoft - Epic’s Mark Rein on GOW 3 April Rumor:"You're kidding right?"

@ Everyone bitching about God/Gears of War: The thread is in the MS forum, features a picture of Marcus Fenix in the OP, and references Epic games in the title. There is only confusion about the name if you a) did not read the OP, in which case you shouldn't post anyway, b) don't know who the devs are for either GoW, in which case you should still read the OP because it is spelled out which game they are talking about, or c) you are trolling and trying to derail the thread.

Get over it, it is possible to have an acronym with more than one meaning depending on the context.

You know what's sad... It took me until reading the OP to figure out why Epic was talking about God of War 3.

Took the words out of my mouth.  I think you'll find that a google search of 'gow' hits more Gears references anyway, but the whole Internet should bend over backwards to appease the angry fans overunning a niche gaming website.

^^ lol. gearsofwar.xbox.com is the first result on google for GOW. M$ even moneyhatting Google?

by either GoW, are you referring to God of War 2 and God of War 3?

Because that IS what the acronym stands for. GOW = God of War. That is why people are confused, because GOW = God of War and Not Gears of War (GeOW).

You are right, it is possible to have an acronym with more than one meaning depending on the context, but that is irrelevant beacuase GOW = God of War... and it always has meant that... (within the videogame community)

@OP,

I would prefer if GeOW 3 (Gears) did not come out until next gen, although I would love to see a showdown someday between Killzone 3 and the next Gears.. by that I mean it would be cool if they were released on or around the same date to compete with one another sales/ quality wise.

"edit: I should say that it is debatable what the acronym is used for... if you look up the words "gow acronym" in google a whole list of debates over the topic come up.

I guess I will just concede that certain people call Gears of War GOW, but they are probably the same people who say "Blue ray" instead of Blu-Ray.

Yeah that seems likely.

Well if you want to get real technical GoW3 still equals Gears of War 3, the God of War series uses roman numerals for their numbering system, so GoWIII = God of War III, GoW3 = Gears of War 3.

OT: I really hope this game comes out soon, Gears is one of my favorite franchises of this gen and possibly all time.

Actually, if you want to be techical.

Neither God of War OR Gears of War deserve the GOW name.

In proper english you don't use an ancynom for "of".

Though then both would be confused with Guild Wars.

Gears of War 3 will release in a november surely? they will want to maximise sales in the pre-xmas holiday season.

as for which November, thats a more difficult one, the chances of 2010 are slipping as the year goes on with no news.
