Many people expect a new console to be coming out in 2012 and that is possible but i think it is unlikely. One factor is the price. When the Ps3 came out it was priced at 130 dollars. The Ps3 will most likely not reach that price for at least 4 years. Also the games. Devs are just now starting to use the true power of the Ps3 and it took them a while. So far Santa Monica, Square Enix, and Kojima only released about 1-2 games. And it took them almost 3 years each. So far I see santa monica, kojima, and square enix release only one more game by 2012. That means they will only release about 2-3 games this gen. And then once again they have to upgrade their engine, learn the new code, etc. Also, this might be a surprise to a many of you, but many people don't have HDTVs yet. And blu ray is only now starting to take over. By the time the Ps2 was done it pretty much standardized DVD. This gen is different, more time consuming, and expensive. Microsoft and Sony will most likely not release new console until 2016 when ultra HD will debut.
Oh i forgot about polyphony. If the Ps4 comes out in 2012 that means they only released one game this gen. (prolouge doesn't count because it wasnt a full game)
