It is counting left over system ram as additional vram.

As far as I remember the 250 GTS has a 512MB and 1GB version.

Thank you, I have a 1GB version in mine. I guess I should toss some more ram in my PC.

Isn't it just for 32 bit systems? Or is that not what the 32 stands for?

no it can still read 64bit It should work with out a hitch it's a great program another is of course:

SiSoft Sandra.

though Sandra is expensive!

I tried running it, and it cant read half my stuff. Windows even said it wouldn't work correctly.

there is most likely an incompatable read for the program due to the age of the program.

grab this ver:

No. I found out what I needed. Thanks though.

Also while were on this. Can anyone tell me how important video ram is? Because I remember someone saying I wouldn't be able to run crysis at full settings. Or stalker clear sky. Crysis I have at High settings across the board, and i get 30-40 fps. Now clear sky it says needs like 512 mb. and all my other stuff not only meet it, but pass it. How can it be I cannot run that game at full? What would I need to do to be able to?

RAM is actually pretty important. That's where textures and stuff are stored. The more ram you have the more textures you can store. That's why console games this gen generally have pixelated textures but not too shabby effects, which are more of a processor thing thing.

1GB is plenty for the GTS 250. Even if you had 2GB your Crysis framerate would be limited by the GPU, not by VRAM. Getting more normal RAM would not help either. The only way to increase framerates would be a better GPU (since your CPU, RAM and VRAM are all plenty). There's actually some argument that the GTS 250 doesn't even benefit from 1GB and 512MB would be enough.

VRAM is NOT that important; GPU is. It's a marketing ploy to try and get consumers to think more VRAM equals faster, so they can sell really low-end cards with 4GB of VRAM and people will think they're good.

I've done a little VRAM chart, so you know how much is enough to get the most out of the GPU:

HD43xx/54xx/GT210/9400/9500: 256MB
HD45xx/46xx/4850/55xx/56xx/GT220/GT240/9600/9800 GT: 512MB
9800GTX/GTX+/GTS 250/HD5750: borderline 512MB/1GB
4870/4890/5770/5850/GTX 260/275/285: 1GB
4850 X2/4870 X2/5870/GTX 295: 2GB
5970: borderline 2GB/4GB

Thank you. I know my GPU isn't that amazing. I am going to upgrade it this summer probably. Just need to get a car first. So basically. No need for extra ram, and the GPUs can only use a certain amount of Vram anyway? Easy enough.

More video RAM just means the system can run higher resolutions better. Any more than 1GB video RAM is only really usable if you're going above 1080p.

As for the 2.7GB, that's because it bases it off of DDR1 RAM clocked at, I believe, 200-333MHz. If your video RAM is faster, or you have a newer type of video RAM (DDR2+), then it'll read it as more. Your video card's RAM is likely DDR2 clocked at roughly 50% faster than the graphics standard.

My video card has 256MB GDDR4, with the motherboard having 128MB DDR3 dedicated VRAM onboard. I MAY also have some of my system memory dedicated to it as well - I can't remember. But either way, 384MB VRAM isn't much, but since they're both incredibly fast and advanced (>1GHz), my software reads that I have 3383MB video RAM.
