The Russian note is the best.

It does make me wonder how long a system founded on debt will last.

For as long as you can afford the interest.

HAHA so true.

But on a serious note, Russia only has about $80 billion debt in comparison.

The debt is bad. Tax and spending Dems make it worse. Govt should be transportation, foreign relations, and military only.

Under those conditions the US would have gone under back in the stagflation of the 80s, well before communism fell even.

It is called smaller govt and fiscal sanity.  Even with Dems in control of a vastly decreased fed govt, tax revenue incurred via that side of the aisle's economic ideology would help in the short term.  Even so, I am for people having more control over a complete paycheck and not zapped with percentages for x, y, and z social experiment.  I am for privatization, innovation, and the idea that local govt knows best not a bloated centralized system in Washington.  I favor streamlining as well.

That's fine, but again, under the conditions you outlined, the US would have been screwed in the 80s, good thing Republicans were around back then to rack up the debt!

No, the tax and spend Democrats are fine. If you tax and then spend, your budgets are balanced. It's the governments who think they can increase spending and cut taxes at the same time who have created this problem. Not naming any names here.

Last month, we spent 220 Billion more then we collected. That's a 220 BILLION dollar deficit, for one month.

It also happens to be the worst single month in history. I bet we break this new record in real soon.
