Forums - Microsoft - Why Halo Reach will outsell Halo 3

Firstly I have to talk about this silly debate about Halo Wars and ODST putting players off Reach. Consumers arn't stupid.

Yeah, I have to agree with this. Ignorance on the part of the consumer is probably the most common fallacious assumption that people make on this site.

Consumers are only ignorant when they don't buy what people want them to buy. Apparantly they would be smart if they bought the other guys console instead. This makes consumers very frustrated because if consumers bought what the 2nd group wants then the first group will start calling them ignorant. Consumers like being told what to do but when theres more than one master, who be the best?

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

Likewise I will likely buy Halo Reach used. I'm not hyped on Halo Reach like I was on Halo 3. Halo 3 was the shit..."Finish the Fight!". Halo Reach is....meh...that book I read about Reach that doesn't include Master Chief and I already know the outcome of. Trust me, there are plenty of people like me that aren't hyped for Reach.

And i'm pretty sure it's a safe to say that people who purchased Halo 3 used aren't going to be in long lines on launch day for Reach.

Just for the record you do realize this is the Story of Noble Team and not Blue Team correct?  In other words this game has litteraly nothing to do with the book other than it takes place during the Fall of Reach.  We know what happened to John, Kelly, Linda and the rest but we have no idea what happened to Noble 6, Carter, Jorge and the rest of Team Noble.  This story is complely new and untold.

More like the book had shit to do with Reach. Never talks about what happens on Reach just that all the spartans aside from MC went there to fight. But since Reach fell and no other spartans appeared in any of the Halo games we can assume they died.

Noble 6? Carter? Jorge? As a fan that played all 3 Halo game and read some books I don't even know who the heck those ppl are. And I've been on vgc for a years. I like to think I know more about game characters than casual FPS fans. If it's a new and untold story...shouldn't we be expecting sales along the lines of Halo 1??

ummmm  no offense but did you read the book?  The whole thing was about the Fall of Reach same thing with First Strike pretty much it picks up the story directly after Reachs Fall...also Noble 6, Carter, Jorge and them are the charecters in your squad in Reach.  They are all spartan III's other than Jorge who is a Spartan II.  They were a completley hidden and Blue Team as well as the rest of all the Spartan 2's and 3's had no idea they even existed.  Basically a Black Ops group among Spartans which is pretty freaking crazy considering that the Spartans themselves were top secret for most of the war.  Their existance didn't even become known until the UNSC told the troops about the unkillable Spartans in order to raise moral considering humanity was being absolutly anhilated by the covenant.  We have no idea what their mission on Reach was or why they never made any contact with any of the other know Spartan Teams on Reach. Reach's story is gonna be truly epic trust me on that.

I read fall of reach in its entirety and I'm pretty sure I remember it mentioning nothing about what is occuring on planet Reach. It tells how the covenant were able to reach Reach, but only talks about the space battle above Reach.

Really...90% of halo fans don't get a word of what you're saying right there. Sorry it doesn't sound epic to me.

HALO REACH is not a sequel.. its not HALO 4, you guys are thinking it is HALO 4 and will topple HALO 3 sales.

Its almost impossible, HALO 3 has sold well over 10 million copies, HALO ODST is an expansion to the HALO 3 experience, while HALO REACH is a prequel to the original HALO, MGS3 didn't do it, so why would HALO REACH? Prequels tend to sell LESS THAN HALF the orignal game.

You guys are trying really hard to find a reason why Halo:Reach won't be the best selling game of 2010 and the best selling Halo game of all time aren't you? It doesn't matter if its a prequel or sequel. What matters is it is completely NEW campaign and completely new MULTIPLAYER. Sounds like a new game to me.

and looks miles better then previous Halo games.

Halo: Reach killed MW2 multiplayer in 1:34.

According to the latest Bungie update the newest build is looking "MUCH" better than the build shown in the trailer.

Microsoft will market the living bejeezus out of it. It will do Halo 3 numbers if nothing else, which is still a massive success.

Yup, MW2 doing 5 million first week shows the scope sales can reach on a games first week.

I think you know that MW brand is much more powerful than Halo brand

It's multi-platform, what do you expect?

Won't happen. Really guys, I'm a x360 fan and your predictions are making all of us look bad. I can give you a nice list of a bunch of games that didn't outsell the game they followed on the PS2 even though install base was doubled.

MGS2 was released when there was 15.5m PS2 install base and sold 5.58m copies. MSG3 (the prequel like Reach will be) had a 73.5m PS2 install base and only sold 4m copies.

Lemme put it this way... a friend of mine and I are not that interested in getting Halo Reach. YOU'RE TELLING ME that you are going to find 2 people that DIDN'T buy Halo 3 that are going to go buy Halo Reach???

Come on, lets get real. It's a prequel!

Oh don't worry, one day you'll go over to a friend that has ODST and play the beta a bit, and when you do you'll realize that Reach will have the definitive MP ever to grace any game.  And that the campaign itself will be absurdly amazing.

Just a note: the majority of Halo players buy Halo's for the MP, not the single player.

BS...Halo 1 sold 6.45m with no MP.

Cough*system link*Cough

Halo 1 MP is the single largest reason I own a 360 today because it got me hooked on the Halo series.  Even though I don't game online all that much I still love Halo.  But yeah, saying Halo 1 had no MP is the height of ignorance.

Oh yes...total ownage. I was obviously referring to xbox live mp, not lan parties. Nonetheless, many people bought the halo game for it's story and don't give two shits about a prequel. I'll be laughing come September.

i cant wait to see how huge the marketing is for halo reach

End of 2012 prediction:

xbox 360 : 73-75 million  playstation 3 : 72-74 million  wii : 104-105 million

Most hyped for :

Bioshock: infinte, The Last Of Us, Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Agent

What is your beef with Reach? Seriously you're just being plain ignorant if you think nobody cares about Reach and it won't come close to Halo 3 in sales. This prequel argument is laughable. Lets not compare the past of MGS on PS2 to Halo which is the flagship brand on Xbox. Halo to Xbox is Mario to Nintendo. Funny thing is what I'm reading here about people's friends not being interested is the complete opposite of what I'm experiencing. All of my friends who never purchased Halo 3 are hyped for Reach and at the moment taking turns borrowing my Halo 3 and ODST copies. I think many FPS fans are really starting to get turned off by COD's glitches and various other problems and are looking for another big FPS to sing their teeth into. Reach will bring in new fans.
