Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft controller-free experiences are the future of gaming!

After the official announcement of MOVE by Sony and the results of NPD, I had to see what was on Aaron Greenberg’s mind. So I asked him about Sony’s new MOVE system, what pushed 360 sales for February and the thoughts of seeing God Of War 3 quality graphics on the 360. Here’s his response:

TBb: What do you think of Sony’s MOVE system in comparison to Natal?

AG: Xbox 360 has a strong history of innovation. Halo, Xbox LIVE and instant-on 1080p HD. With each of these, we had our sights set on the future – and it paid off for us, the industry and Xbox 360 owners. We are doing it again with “Project Natal” on Xbox 360. We believe controller-free experiences are the future of gaming and entertainment. Only “Project Natal” makes YOU the controller, putting you in the middle of the action and in complete control. Jump and your Avatar jumps. Speak and characters respond. Combined with Xbox LIVE, “Project Natal” will transform how you connect with your friends, family and entertainment – as only Xbox 360 can do.

TBb: What do you think caused the sales jump for Xbox 360 in February?

AG: I think it was a combination of our leading portfolio of exclusive blockbuster games, industry leading online experiences over Xbox LIVE and high anticipation for the release of “Project Natal” for Xbox 360. What makes us special is that we are doing all of this at a great value, starting at just $199. As you know, consumers vote with their dollars and these results are further proof that this will be the biggest year in Xbox history.

TBb: Do you think games like God Of War 3 can be done on the 360?

AG: We have proved over the years, that all games can be realized on Xbox 360. Just look at titles like Final Fantasy XIII, Forza Motorsport 3, Gears 2, and Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360? These games and our leading online experiences demonstrate that Xbox 360 is the most powerful games and entertainment console in the market today.

Can't wait!

PR talk at its finest.

This guy is just pathetic and as for Natal I guess Microsoft thinks that the casual games are the future ain't that great.

Controller free is the future of gaming? Unlikely. Is it the future of perhaps media interface on TV? Maybe?! LOL.

But strictly speaking I guess hes right in that only Natal makes you the controller. Thats pretty lame, I mean jumping onto the tracks is the only way to be run over by a train and killed.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

Sony has had controller free gaming for years with the PS Eye. To be frank it kind of sucks. There are very few things you can do without any kind of meaningful input. You at least need a keyboard, a mouse, some button or something to be able to indicate complex actions you can't just act out.

I have a feeling Natal will end up a lot like the PS Eye with most of the games relegated to novelty games where you interact with the screen to do things like swat away bugs or balls and match on screen prompts. It's very hard to see how you control something like God of War on Natal, even most shooters seem like they'd have to be on rails with no controller input and you'd still need a replica gun or something.

In the year 3000 maybe.

Nice how all 3 responses he talks about Xbox Live and promotes it's premier experience. Not one of those questions asked are even close to necessitating the mentioning of Xbox Live.

But I guess a PR rep has gotta do what PR rep has gotta do.

That statement is wrong. M$ isn't the only one with this kind of tech.

Wait most powerful games and entertainment console in the market?  Shouldn't that have an *?

The footnote would be *Compared to current Nintendo consoles.
