Forums - General - Who else just bought an iPad?

Just got the 64 Gig 3G modle, along with the keyboard doc. I really hope it arrives before May 1st! :)

If you have an iPhone did you have to get a whole new business plan for it or does the plan work for both devices now?

It's not connected to any plan. If you want 3G service for the iPad, it's $15 for 250 Meg a month, or $30 for unlimited. No plan, just pay for the months you use it, and you can buy it on the devise itself when you need it.

If I get in the habit of taking my iPad everywhere I go, I will get rid of my iPhone, and go with a Nexus one on a local provider. There is one in town that will give me 1,200 minutes, 1,200 text's, and 50 meg of data for $30. All on the Verizon network.

50 meg should be fine if I have my iPad. If I root the phone and turn on tethering, then I will just use wifi on on the iPad, and get unlimited data on the Nexus.

Lots of options at the moment :)

Ah I see, then can the iPad tether to your existing smart phones which do have a plan? Or even just the iPhone.

lol no, couldn't be a bigger waste of money.

It's just a larger iPod touch that you need to pay a monthly fee for to carry around and be useful yet it's incredibly inconvenient to carry around for anything that could be useful to have 3G for when compared to the iPhone.

So nope, didn't preorder one.

Besides, I would be willing to bet a better and cheaper one will be out in 6 months.

Better in 12 months, cheaper... probably never.

I'll still wait 6+ months to make sure the manufacturing process has been shaken down.

I can't say I envy you. Not sure how anyone see's any appeal to this.... If you want a netbook, get a netbook. At least those can do multitasking and run more than the Apple limited apps. I don't see the point in buying a larger iPod Touch with a keyboard adapter thing.

Even as a gadget dork, I find it hard to see the appeal. It really is just a bigger iPod touch, as far as I know it brings nothing new to the table and is inferior by far to every comparable product.

It's only saving grace is it can do a lot of things (but not at once ), but you know the saying, a jack of all trades, a master of none.

The Rule of Convergence is bullshit. It only applies to things in your pockets, to everything else it doesn't.

So now you have the iPhone and it's the equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife from waaaay back in the day. However did anyone ever see something liek this come out?

Because that is to the Swiss Army Knife as to what the iPad is to the iPhone. Notice that a sharp knife, the most important part of a survival knife, is missing.

Sorry. I'm waiting for the Courier.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
