WASHINGTON—Officials say the wife of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is in serious condition after a truck slammed into the back of the vehicle she and her daughter were riding on Interstate 95.

A spokesman for the senator says 69-year-old Landra Reid broke her back, neck and nose in the accident. She is being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital in suburban Virginia.

The spokesman says the couple's adult daughter, Lana, was also hurt in the four-vehicle accident but that she is expected to be released from the hospital Thursday evening.

Mr. Reid visited the hospital and then returned to Capitol Hill for a meeting with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. His spokesman says Mr. Reid is now back at the hospital.

This gives even more credence to a possibility of Reid's resignation.  Hopefuly Landra will be alright but that is TBD.  This happened right outside where I am too.  Inova Fairfax is a walk from my place.  Even though I am a conservative I wish the Reid family the best.

I wonder why it happened. Unfortunately the first thing this reminds me of is how crazy Joe Biden is. (Joe Biden's wife and child were killed in a car accident. He later used their deaths as political fodder saying they died because of a drunk driver... except the driver wasn't drunk and was cleared of any wrongdoing, the tragedy being the fault of his late wife... not making a stop when she should have. Say what you want about Obama, but i pray to god he stays president all 4 years.)

Hopefully they pull through though.

Yeah.  The wife has a broken nose, back, and neck and is in s.c.  The daughter is in ok condition with lacerations.  The latest is that both are expected to make it.

In any case, Biden is a disaster...

well although I don't approve of using those things for political gain, no one knows how they'll act when everything they ever had was taken away from them.  I mean no one could seriously look me in the eye after their family died in a car accident and say they had no feelings about it whatsoever.  It make the most sane of us go crazy.

You know, that is just one point I want to bring up that just gets on me every now and then when talking on these forums.  When talking about politics, everyone just for some odd reason forgets about the human condition.  They forget what it means to be a fellow human being.  They talk as if we are talking about plastic dolls or things that are just quantifiable.  Politics is the study of a social human being, or how they act with others in the world.  Let's not forget that human aspect of the argument.  It's a thing in Greek they used to call pathos, or recognition of common human suffering.  It's very important to politics because if you simply look at everything without looking at human nature or human emotions then you aren't practicing politics anymore.  That's just one things that gets on my nerves on forums, or media or whatever it may be.  People just forget we are talking about human beings. 

OT: well I'm very sad to hear this and my best wishes go out to the Reid family.

i dont care much for internal American politics, but on a personal level i hope she gets better.

The human conditon of using your wife and childs death for your own political message?   It's either that or the fact that his wife was at fault was something he can't accept and he let his truth take presidence over the real truth.  Neither of which are particularly good.

Either way, it annoys me that the story is the first thing I think of when I see stories on this.
