Forums - Gaming - The Real Console Price Comparison

I wouldn't consider those crappy start games you get with the 360 games at all. They suck.

and 70 dollars for a PS3 HD cable? gime a break. I paid like 7 dollars.

Id love to see 4 people in a small room playing with any of these motion devices.

Might as well add hospital visits for these "4" person playing experiences.

please define small room and a game that requires motion. I've played Wii Sports Tennis, Grand Slam Tennis and Mario Kart Wii all in the same room with 3 other people. The room is ~14ft wide, and maybe ~16ft deep, however a lot of room is taken up by furniture.

Sony Retakes Lead as Most Expensive Console

Back in 2006 Sony got their console price down low enough that Microsoft's XBox 360 was the most expensive console on the market. Now with the introduction of the Sony Move and Microsoft Natal around 30% of the Nintendo faithful have claimed they will be selling their Wii and getting the another form of entertainment. It is time again for another unbiased console price comparison to be able to play every retail game so they can understand the real costs of such an expensive move. Since Sony and Microsoft are going after the casual market full force, a full casual party capable system has been priced out to get a fair comparison. (Note: Every price rounded up by 1-3 cent for easy reading)

  Wii X360 PS3
System $200 $300 $300
Requires User To Buy
1 Game $0 $01 $60
3x Standard Controllers $2102 $150 $165
Blu-Ray N/A
N/A
$0
Wifi Adapter
$0
$100
$0
1 Year Online Access
$0 for the first 6 months
$50
Free
HDD (120GB)
N/A
$0 $0
HD Cable
$30 $50 $703
4x Motion Controllers $204 $1005 $3006
Total $460 $750 $895

As you can see, the PS3 is almost twice as expensive as the Wii and still clocks in $150 more than the XBox 360 which comes with a second free game. Now, while every console has gone up in price, Sony has surpassed them all by managing to increase the price by $400 compared to Microsoft's modest $50 increase. Sony seriously needs to cut the price of their system if they want to stay competitive.

1A second game is included
2Nuncuck & WM+ included
3Free USB Cable
4Based on previous controllers purchased, only 1 WM+ needed
5Based on Pachter price estimate
6Based on $100 starter kit + Wii Ripoff so extra controllers should be the same price

Funny chart but I think you're off the the online access.  Doesn't the Wii only charge for the browser but you can still play online games for free?

Also, your motion controller option I don't think takes into account that some Move games require two Move wands so you might actually need 8 for 4 people.

Also, I'm glad you posted this because otherwise fanboys would be calling for the OP's head.  Could you imagine if I had posted this?

Also why would you need 3 regular controllers and then 4 motion controllers? Those are extras, not necessities.

Hell. I will probably not buy Natal or Move at all.

I don't see how the price comparison Sony did was BS.

But, clearly this is a messed up chart if you spend 70 dollars on a HDMI cord your retarded at most you should spend only 30 dollars on it. So minus 40 and 20 from Sony and Microsoft.

If your including the new PSmove then you need to minus 60 for a new game, which was to high anyways considering I can buy pure and lego batman that come with the 360 for 40 new and less used. So now Sony is down 100.

If you want to assume PS Move package is 100 and 3 additional controllers is 150 then Sony loses an extra 50.

So the new cost is 730 for 360 and 745 for the PS3. Now factor in the costs for 8 batteries needed for your 360 controllers. And you have likely made up the 15 dollar difference. Or if you just factor in the charge station, which is 33 dollars and the new costs are 763-745.

Then again you can buy the old wifi adapter for 80 as previously mentions so we are looking at 743-745. Needless to say this could keep going and going.

The fact is the Wii is the most affordable home console and that is why it is still selling more consoles than the others.

No need.  Fictional Chart could always use another Fictional Category couldnt it?

Just for the fun of it, that came from a commercial I just saw.  Funny how Rex Hospital (largest Hospital here in Raleigh, NC) uses a Wii in their commercial for Urgent Care.  (father gets hit upside the head with a WiiMote by his little son while playing Hockey)

LOL, so natal is going to be free? So you have to buy a 60 USD game for PS3 but not for 360? And why would an hdmi cable be more expensive for PS3? 4 Wii-motes+ nunchucks for 20 USD? Whoever wrote that is an idiot.

Why was this even posted here, by a moderator no less??

Its called a joke.

People on this site are way too caught up in fanboy panties to enjoy a little joke! Sheesh!

Yeah. The idea behind a satire is to make a claim that is so unreasonable that is can't possibly be true, while asserting that it is. In this case this is way to true to be serious so it must be funny.

-- Nothing is nicer than seeing your PS3 on an HDTV through an HDMI cable for the first time.

The Wii online information is taken directly from Sony (click first link) Also, I didn't know you needed multiple lightsticks (or whatever they are called) until after I posted this.

I've now come to realize this chart isn't unbiased, but is typical pro Sony journalism.

I'm not sure why you'd even include all the optional garbage in that list. If you're going to be fair, go with the base package that includes the most similar components and go from there.

Sony used to put out a new chart like this every 6 months to try and make the $600 PS3 look like it wasn't extremely expensive. If you were on these forums from when they first started you would have been around for those threads too. Sony one time insisted that you had to buy 4 controllers to play (I couldn't find that one). You also had to buy a WiFi adapter and a wireless controller. If you look at the chart I actually linked they bought the worst console possible, then upgraded it which is more expensive. They could have just bought the Pro and been done with it. Think of this thread as a throwback to those threads which were hilarious because they were serious.
