Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: $130 Arcade next week in Canada

I bought 2 Arcades today...

Better yet, Future Shop had the 20 GB pro refurbished models, that come with headset, 20 hd, component cables for...99 bucks! Truly nuts.

@loves2splooge
You can get the 60 GB starter pack for the 360 at best buy...if you buy an 360 arcade at the same time for 79.99. Thats a great deal for a 60 gb, headset and 3 months of live...

Oh I see it.
"Add a 60GB Live Starter pack for $79.99 save $30"
So it would be $210 with everything.

Interesting, I might go pick one up. Can you add an internal Hard Drive to it or does it have to be external?

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

lol @ that ad.

These promotions ($70 off arcades for a week in Canada, and then bundling Forza 3 and ODST with the Elite at no extra charge for the spring) make sense given that the 360 needs something to give it a boost at this point. The PS3 offers Blu-Ray, the 360 doesn't. The PS3 offers free online, the 360 doesn't. The PS3 has integrated Wi-Fi, the 360 doesn't (not a big deal for the vast majority of gamers but some gamers have no choice but to use Wi-Fi sadly unless they want to set up a huge ass ethernet cable in the house).

That said, it's not smart for Microsoft to play the razors and blades game at this stage. They can play it more than Sony can (seeing as how Microsoft generates healthy profits year after year whereas the Sony corporation is in the red these days). But Microsoft's shareholders have other plans. They want to see returns on their whooping investments on the Xbox brand. The Xbox division is starting to generate profits quarter-to-quarter (xbox live gold subscriptions are a big part of that apparently) but if they lowered the hardware price and made online multiplayer free, they would forfeit those profits and on top of that lose even more money.

To be perfectly fair, only Nintendo have actually made a return for their shareholders culmulatively over the course of however many generations each have participated in.

Oh and they aren't playing that game, they're playing the 'slash the price and get the people who would not have otherwise bought one' card. They will never make online free unless Sony actually poses a real threat to their business, which hasn't happened yet or even been close to happening, yet.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

Microsoft should be creating their own exclusives as SONY did in the PlayStation Golden Age.

I think one of the things that kept alive Nintendo in the last 2 generations was the first party support, something that SEGA didnt have (enough) and MS should be building right now.

Edited: I wrote this cause i think the only way MS belives it can fight is in price-related terms

Playstation golden age? Hell no, PC gaming was way better than the Playstation 1/2.

So, is this selling out in Canada? I wonder if people near the border would go to Canada for this deal?
