Just got both in the mail. I'll play SO3 first then move on to Xenosaga. Any starting tips for SO3?

Sometime, dungeon are very long, pacing can also be anoying, at certain time there will be cutscene each 10 minutes and after that there will not be any for 2-3 hours. So starting tip would be to not get discourage when the dungeon are long because you will be reward with a great story after. Enjoy! Between, Xenosaga is a lot better ;). Star ocean has better gameplay but when it comes to story, pacing and cutscene it doesnt hold a candle against Xeno.

Xenosaga has its own pacing problems.  In the first 6 hours of the game, only about 1 and a half hours are actual gameplay or so I've heard.

PS2.

Btw I started SO3 and I'm at the Ruins place. Lol the music is so unfitting in this place :P Anyway so far I'm enjoying it though the story hasn't really gotten anywhere yet. The gameplay's fun though, very Tales like as I expected.

Ha, that's one of the many things that annoyed me in SO3. The dungeon music feels so out of place. What do you think about the fat enemy in the robe yelling "My money!"?

My advice to you is to keep your expectations for the story very, very low.

The quaker oats guy? That guy is hilarious!

Have fun.

Xenosaga's great game, a bit easy though. You definitely need to pick up part 2+3 later on. The game really shines when you see the story and the characters in all 3 games as a whole. I also appreciated the Nietzsche-inspired theme and names, quite a unique touch.
