Forums - PC - Steam password recovery, help please!

Ok, so I've had Steam logging in automatically for a long time now, I'm almost certain I remember what my password is because last time I had to enter it and wasn't sure what it was, the first thing I thought it should be worked.

This time I was uninstalling some stuff from the control panel remove software thing, tried to unistall the L4D2 demo which I saw and thought "what's that still doing there?" up comes a steam login window.

None of the passwords I try work. Trying to reset my password I get to the stage where steam has emailed me this:

Dear Steam user (account name: ****),

This is an automated message generated by Steam account administration to help you reset your Steam password.

Please enter the following code into the 'Verification Code' field of the 'Forgotten Password' dialog. (Enter the code exactly as written. You can use copy/paste operations to enter the code):

********

Please also enter the *answer* to the following question into the 'Secret Answer' field of the same dialog:

What did customer support last reset your passphrase to?

IMPORTANT: Please do not reply to this message to attempt to reset your password -- that won't work. You must enter the above information into the Steam application.

Signed,

What is this passphrase they speak of? I've googled it and found a lot of other people with the same problem but no answers yet. I hope to god I still have my DOWII cd key if it comes to that.

... uh email them at "email@support.steampowered.com"?

its probably a question they ask you if you forgot your pass, they are usually something like your first pet's name, mothers maiden name, and stuff like that. If you don't remeber that try e-mailing them again or calling them, i am sure they can find your account and verify who you are with a credit card you have used to buy games with

Yeah, one way of doing it is telling them a cd key you got when you bought a game. I tried the secret question/answer cause I know it but that didn't work. I also tried putting in codes previous steam emails but those didn't work either. They were verification codes and not passphrases.

It seems like the system is flawed, seeing how many other people have the same issue with no solution. So I guess I'll have to do it the long way tomorrow.

Hot damn

If I start on monday, I might get a new password by the end of the week. Wow, half my mid-term with steam locked. Maybe I should just pirate download the games I know I own?

Just go through the process it won't be so bad, you'll get your account back.
