With Take-Two's fiscal announcement yesterday, the publisher announced that Rockstar's GTA IV had surpassed 15 million copies sold around the globe. Grand Theft Auto fans enjoyed their episodic content, but now they're chomping at the bit for the next full GTA title. While Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said that there's no need to annualize the GTA franchise, you can bet that Rockstar's hard at work on GTA V right now.
Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey commented that "there is building suspension for a pre-E3 GTA V announcement, although we expect nothing from Rockstar at this year’s official E3 event." GTA is one of those franchises that's so huge that Rockstar doesn't even need to do it at E3; Rockstar and Take-Two could hold their own event and announce the title in the days leading right up to E3, when many publishers often do hold separate press events.
Hickey continued, "We think the next iteration of GTA for console can significantly outsell its predecessor, reflecting on the sales acceleration of the prior cycle GTA console iterations, an accelerating core gamer installed base (with an emphasis on PS3 installed expansion where GTA has historically dominated relatively), and the most talented / motivated development team in the world, in our view."
Take-Two has yet to provide an update on the next iteration of GTA, and while we think it's doubtful that GTA V will ship in 2010, we think that an early 2011 release is entirely possible.

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible.
