Forums - General - Wait... go Congress?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8550765.stm

In short, congress FINALLY started the wheels to recognize the Armenian genocide committed by Turkey.

Oddly against Obama's wishes... consider Obama himself promised to do so on the campaign trail.

Lets hope they actually hold to their principils finally rather then it getting shelved again.

The same thing every President since WW1 has been up on.

They don't see a reason to piss of Turkey just for Armenia which isn't too important of a nation.

Congress has more and more been edging towards declaring it a genocide... however Turkey is currently very important in regards to the "war on terror".

Iraq bordering Turkey... and some of the people we liberated from Saddam have started leading more and more terrorist attacks into turkey since they believe they had the right to a state that includes northern Iraq and southern turkey and we spend a lot of time diplomatically trying to keep turkey out of northern iraq.

While the US is silmaltaniously crossing into pakistan illegally to take out terrorists who are hitting Afghanistan.  Something both Bush and Obama appear to be guilty of.  I don't even think we found out about Bush doing it until he was out of office... but nobody cared cause the economy was tanking.

Kind of Ironic... this was always an issue that kind of bothered me.  Later found out that I'm actually probably part armenian as my last name is armenian and that part of the family came from the Ukraine... which actually was one of the biggest places Armenians fled too... after well... the act in question.

I'll agree with Obama on this. Turkey's favor is far more important than Armenia's (the only assistance we may need there is in resolving the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, and we've never seemed to care about that little contentious territory), and exactly what difference does it make acknowledging that it was a genocide, aside from symbolic? Are any survivors left?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

From WW1? I doubt it. The effects of it thought still GREATLY effect a LOT of people.
