While I agree that the game looks beautiful, it's not without its limitations.
About the comment about how there should be more games displaying this kind of mastery, it's hard to frame a game the way they did with AW.
When you're going for a high level of graphic detail, you need to make compromises. Such as heaving the game take place in very dark areas, fog, and limited environment. It's like Super Mario Galaxy. To reach that level of graphic detail, they had to break the worlds up into manageable pieces.
However, both environments work really well within the context of the game, and it's nigh imperceptible that it's been segmented.
My point is, it's very difficult to come up with a very convincing level of segmentation without ruining the atmosphere and context. It isn't like you can just remove all trees and call it an alien world with no trees. You need something concrete.
Alan Wake does an amazing job of conveying the scope perfectly,....just don't expect it to be like that for every game.
