Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I had an idea for a Natal App.

Great idea. As soon as Natal support is integrated into the XNA SDK you might be able to try it yourself if you were so inclined...

Or hold up a life sized photo of the person face up to the camera.
I like the idea. sounds good.

It's a 3D camera.

"Hey, I thought you said that plaster cast of my head was for the wax museum!"

Good point.

I keep thinking it's just an eyetoy.

@Akvod
If it already has facial recognition as part on Natal why not take advantage of it.
It also doesn't have to be on the 360 but protect your computer. I've seen fingerprint scanners on Laptops so why not this?

Facial would cost far too much. Voice could work. But even that is pretty costly. Its not simple going through and finding a perfect match for either of this. And what happens if you lose your voice? Or you have an accident and your face changes? This is why we have passwords. Forget silly over complicated ideas. Instead let the console be locked at any time like with a PC. Problem solved.

What if you forget your password?
I'm telling you that has happened to me more than having my face changed and loosing my voice.
Facial recognition has been touted as one of the features of Natal so why do people think it's too expensive to do something built in?

It's not as if they have to start from scratch.

Did you see what the avatars looked like when it did that? Eww. It made a man a female avatar. To have a trusty lock requires more expensive software.

Also if you forget your password. You are a moron. And deserve not to play. Its not hard to remember a string of 4 numbers. Also Email/password recovery says Hi.

What are you talking about?
Do you know how many forums, bank sites, email accounts make you create or creates a password for you? How are you even posting on here if you dont? Maybe you use 4 numbers but a lot of sites ask for 6 letters min with two numbers. That's a lot of passwords and sure you can make them all the same but people don't.

Maybe you have a photographic memory and your face changes every other day and your voice keeps crapping out on you but others arent like that. You are special so please think me a moron for being human and forgetting a password that I made 4 years ago.

Also don't presume to think that a moron like me doesn't know about password recovery.
Hey Issac Newton here's an idea. When setting up the facial recognition how about having some sort of safety feature like "mothers maiden name" "where was you born" and for super people like you a password as some sort of password recovery to reset the facial recovery software and grant you access when you completely change your face or lose your voice..
Not a bad idea from a moron hey? The facial recognition is just that, to recognise it's you and adjust to your settings. It doesn't have to be about security so a password might not even be needed.

I don't know what you mean about the avatars (I am a moron) but if it's something to do with mimicking the movement of the host face then that's something completely different. You're asking it to remember points on your face not sing and dance with you.

First off, its a fucking game console. A 4 character password is PLENTY. Forgetting a 21 character password okay that I can understand. Don't want people in your bank account etc. But if you forget a password as simple as 4 characters. Then hell there is something wrong with your brain.

A normal human can remember 4 characters perfectly fine. You can spell your own name can't you?

Also, why do the whole facial/voice crap if your going to end up using old "point and click" tech if that fails to work. People like to do overly complex things. there is ZERO reason to implement this.

And the avatar thing was. It reads your face. And then makes an avatar of you for you. It made a female avatar for a male. real exact right? Even the software used to scan faces in important buildings can and do get it wrong and need to be checked by a human. It cant mistake a simple 4 character password can it?

I have one cash card 2 credit and then there's the sky box, xbox, mobile phone so it's not just 1 4 number password.
Maybe for you but other people have many to remember and can't make them all the same. It's easier to remember a word than a number and I never said I forget them. Hell I can remember the big number on my credit card but I would not be so rude as to think someone a moron for not remembering every single password and pin code.
Thinking about it god I'm glad my PS2 doesn't work because I have forgotten the 4-pin code for that

The point is you get in front of your tv and it see's you before you have time to point and click. I think it would be a great addition. Sit in front of the computer as it loads up and it sees me so loads up my settings and not the settings for any of the other 3 people in this house. The point and click is for people like you who are always changing their face or losing thier voice.

There is ZERO reasons to impliment it for you but plenty for me and others. I hope that the world never has to march to you beat and do you really expect things to be done based on whether you want it or not?

I wasn't talking about it making an avatar of your face. I had never even considered that. It doesn't appeal to me but I certainly would never say don't include it because I don't want it.

That's cool. I think there should be a system where you can do a standard pause or if you pause and pull a trigger or something it does that locked pause that you describe.
