Sony as well as the Playstation 3 have received massive media coverage ranging from hundreds of websites to news networks over the past few hours. Given the fact that March will be one of the biggest months for Sony as two of the most anticipated games of the year will hit stores around the world, Sony will most certainly want to attract attention to itself and the upcoming releases. So, looking at it from a different angle, Sony have created this huge media buzz, which might acutally work in their favor.

Obviously this problem is going to be fixed in the next 24h as Sony stated earlier and hopefully everything will go back to normal for everyone.

Is this too far fetched or does anyone else share my point of view?

How could this be positive? I can't even use my system at all because i get a stupid trophy error.

@gurglesletch

Take aside the current problem at hand, which will be resolved in the coming hours. Sony as well as Playstation are all over the web etc. This creates huge interest, people might not only check out what the actual problem is, but the product itself, which can generate new interest and to potentially new consumers.

@theprof00

We will never know, I just wanted to give the people a different angle on this whole story. You know, something for us to write about.

It's good to do that. I don't know myself.

In things like this where politics is involved (look up politics if you don't get my meaning), the only way to tell is to see what happens after. Usually, if the result is beneficial, the cause was manipulated. So, if something incredible happens to Sony's benefit, it was probably engineered as such. If not, it was probably a huge fuckup.

I'm unconvinced. If there were a lot of people ignorant of the Playstation line of systems, it could be a net positive, but I just can't imagine too many people saying "Oooooh, Sony makes games too? I never knew."

Would you be kind enough and tell me how Kevin Butler and the bug are interrelated or are you suggesting that he caused all this?
