Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza 3: what went wrong :C

Very good article and I won't be buying the next forza, until played first. they better realise the game is not nearly as good as they said it was. the amount of stuff you touched on is only half of the problems with this game.
For one spoilers that are suppost to come out don't even pop out at the right speed when there suppost to, actually they don't even pop out at all. what a joke turn ten.

IF YOU DIDN'T TALK FORZA UP LIKE A GOD THEN MAYBE PEOPLE WOULD UNDERSTAND BUT THE AMOUNT OF CRAP IN THIS GAME IS UNACCEPTABLE.

What went wrong?? People succumbed to the usual Microsoft hype? The same will happen to Natal but keep your hopes up guys a leopard might just change its spots ;)

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

Yeah, this thread got nasty real quick here for some reason. Also, I disagree with your former comment, I think Alan Wake will rock! But agree to disagree. . .

All I really want to do is finish Heavy Rain and get back to 100%-ing Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Perhaps this thread should get locked. 65 replies, and no one has addressed any of the major complaints that the article presents. No one is talking about driving physics, no one is talking about the online community (not to be confused with the number of people playing the game), no one is talking about damage modeling.

The only thing I'll add is I think it's stupid to give Forza 3 high marks just because it's the best game of it's genre on the market now. It's like giving a restaurant 5 stars for a disgusting lobster bisque just because it's the only restaurant that serves it in a 500 mile radius.

That was the articles main point and only data.  That why out of 2 million people, are only 1,700 people playing at a given time?  He went on to investigate why this is the case.  And came to the conclusion that the userbase is unhappy with the game.  But, the error in his argument is, how does this compare to other games of its type after a comparable time frame from release.  He brings up Forza 2 but doesn't post any hard data.  In fact, none of it is anything other than anectdotal evidence.

What we do have data for, is that Forza 3 is one of the top 14 games on XBox Live.

Forum threads are terrible indications of what a fanbase thinks overall about a game.  A vast majority of gamers that are happy are not going to go on threads and post how happy they are with a game.  People that don't like things are the vocal minority.  It is the same with Halo 3.  Go to threads and read about BR spread and matchmaking dislikes.  Does this mean that Halo 3 isn't a great fucking game?  Hell no.

An article written by a GT fanboy gets taken seriously by everyone in here? I assume Inside Sim Racing rushed their review and know nothing about judging physics in driving games either. I'm sorry but this is one very bad article with so many fails its not even funny.

The Problem is, it's estimated over 400,000 people play in custom games. Which arent recorded. Like peroper FM3 leagues which arent counted.

I think the article's author was a bit harsh with Forza 3's damage system. It's true that it isn't anywhere near as dynamic as Turn10 made it out to be, however they're extremely restricted on just how much damage they can feature on the cars. Car manufacturers such as Ferrari will not allow any significant kind of body deformation on their street cars in any video game.
