Forums - PC Discussion - World's Slowest CPU - on my Laptop!

Check this out:

It's really annoying. Once I turn on my laptop and open any program, it instantly starts heating up and the CPU speed shows up as either 575MHz or 1.15GHz (generally 575MHz) in properties for My Computer. It's meant to run at 2.3GHz and it is driving me absolutely f*****g crazy.

Holy shit, does that actually work? OMG, I'm going to have the most epic gaming laptop ever soon.

/sarcasm.

Seriously though, my laptop is driving me crazy.

ouch... that is like a tutrles using Windows 95's pace

Laptop CPUs always do that, you need to be running a program that uses alot of CPU.  Try opening up Task Manager instead (right-click taskbar) and see how much CPU% your using.  Try running SpeedFan (need to DL it) and check your CPU temps.

LOL, what the hell is that?

I'm assuming the CPU is speedstepping down to 575mhz because it is idle and trying to save power? I never realized it actually showed up that way though.

PC: AMD Athlon II Quadcore 635 (OC to 4.0ghz) , ATI Radeon 5770 1GB (x2)

My Pentium Dual Core does that too, it goes from it's 3.0 Ghz overclock to around 1 Ghz. It's normal, specially in laptops...

I'm pretty sure you can control that feature somewhere in Control Panel, probably in "Energy profiles" or something like that...

if it is overheating, then your fan may have failed. Also, try replacing the thermal paste on the CPU.

Also, that isn't all that slow, as I used to have both a Intel 486 (I'm pretty sure it was one of those 66/33 MHz CPUs), and I had whatever came in those old XT computers (had to look this one up. It had a 4.77 MHz processor and a 10MB HDD ).

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
