I have played dozens and dozens of traditional adventure games from years back (back to scott adams adventures). Heavy rain is an old fashioned adventure game in a nice dress... said it a while ago.

I am interested to see if the consequences of action/non action are stark when i play it though.

not really. It's a revolutionary experience. It's not like point and click. you literally feel you are alive inside the world, its the most emersive experience i've ever had. Fantastic game design.

Actually, kowenicki is dead on.  It's not the new experience you think it is.  It's a classic style game with current day technology.

probably the most important thing in that fight, is that YOU WERE THERE? you could've chosen not to fight and leave the scene, who knows if something bad happens to Lauren and you lose some important clue from her? I don't know, the possibilty is there.

It's that very concept that is making me try to get my father to play it. He became a Myst addict back in the 90s.

Its more the short lived movie/game crossovers genre which briefly appeared and then disapeared at the dawning of the CD medium than a true adventure game. I remember playing a few and they are pretty much exactly like Heavy Rain barring a few interface changes here and there.

That's how I see it. If you fight, you can see Lauren feels indebted to Shelby, and that'll definitely have some effect down the road.

ssj - would you mind editing your OP to let people know there are spoilers in this thread? I wouldn't normally ask because it's a forum, but this game isn't going to be much if it's spoiled for people.

Some of the things you do ARE completely pointless... There are times you are just clickign a button to move the story along... But, then there's another level to it, where, in the fights, you can miss a few buttons, but still make it through, or miss just one, and die.

I had an experience earlier where I missed ONE button, and one of the characters died. I retried it, to see if you just die at the end of the fight no matter what, missed four completely different buttons, and made it through alive but the guy got away.

There are VERY distinct moments where the story can diverge. At least one fight for each character can end in them being killed, and there are a number of points at which things branch off depending on something as simple as a wrong turn being taken. Still, it's just an old point and click adventure, nothing new, and it's not nearly as expansive as it is made out to be.

It's an interactive adventure/interactive film/interactive entertainment/twist and click/walk like a duck/mystery-thriller, and it's a blast... stop tryign to put a label on it, stop trying to defend or bash it, and go play it.

After playing through Indigo Prophecy (and seeing as Heavy Rain is similar), I've considered it to be a point and click kind of game.

I don't see why it should be trashed talked because it's not like the other games that are releasing.

Just giving some continued feedback: started an experiment today where I am only doing the bare minimum in each scene to keep the game going, like walking to certain points or doing prompts that you can't "fail" but MUST do to move on... Makes no difference in the game. I'm about halfway through, and completely ignoring the QTE sequences has made no difference outside of the scene it's happening in, and even still the story just goes on with little to no reference back to it. Even the converstions will continue without you, as your character will just pick what to say for you if you do nothing. In a lot of ways, the game is less interactive than a point and click... it's really just a movie with optional audience participation. Very dissapointing.

i think i found out change scenes and crap. Its all about the life and death choices throughout the game. Also your almost garrantied 4 ending sequences each play through.
