Forums - Gaming Discussion - Arc/wand getting a wireless nunchuck-esque peripheral?

From neogaf:

Heard from Dev friend who has these at his work.

Was initially given the PSWand with big pink blob, looks like sex toy. Last few weeks wireless nunchuck arrived!

Has analog stick and square and circle on it and I think L1 and R1. I'll have to check the proper details but looks like the nunchuk will happen.

Wireless too, sweet.

And from a later post:

I’ve heard from my friend on Saturday. He’s to be trusted (by me at least) and so I hope you guys trust me. I believe this is happening but if proven wrong I’m sure I’ll be banned or branded a k***head or something.

I’ll speak to him later this week about the exact details of the buttons but he says that the nunchuk only arrived fairly recently and both have the mini-usb socket in the bottom.

Then it was reported by PlayStation University.

Push Square had this to say on the matter:

We’ve been led to believe that developers of the Playstation Motion Controller have received a wireless nunchuck component in addition to the “wand-like” device Sony has already shown. Our source, who wishes to remain un-named, has backed up claims made by PSUni, that Sony are to include a wireless nunchuck as part of their motion control solution.

Apparently the nunchucks feature an analogue stick and the typical Playstation shoulder buttons.

This would explain the delay.

Gaming section? Whoops.

Eh, screw it.

pffft, too many devises for a single console if ture. they should just re-design the ds3 and make it so that it can be split into two with the dpad and right analog stick in one half and the 4 face buttons on the other half.

hmm.. the only problem I see with this is, that local multiplayer games that use both parts of the motion controller this way only can have 3 players, because blue-tooth only can communicate with 8 devices (with 1 being the PS3)

It could be true but I'm inclined to disbelieve because:

  1. The guy could have a trusted friend BUT then he would be a terrible friend because if that every got traced back that friend working with the Arc would get seriously fucked and the studio he worked for would be just as fucked.
  2. I accept that things change until everything is finally nailed down closer to release but unless they just changed the form of the off-hand wand, I don't think they would that drastically change the button-layout this close to release.  Hell, even just changing the form is a big deal.  Think how differently you hold a Wii Remote and a nunchuck and try to doing Wii Remote motions with a nunchuck.  Some work, some are pretty uncomfortable.
  3. Of course to that I guess you could just say Sony wants you to buy an eyetoy, two wands and a nunchuck and I could almost believe that.
  4. Don't these work off the little ball at the end, does that mean the nunchuck would have a ball at the end and wouldn't that severly limit where you could place buttons?

I'm not saying adding a nunchuck is a bad thing, I think the Wii nunchuck is more comfortable than the Wii Remote, I just don't believe this rumor yet.  It could be true, I'll just wait for conformation.

Now Sony successfully ripped off Wiimote and nunchuk.

Congrats. Now I won't look like a retarded holding a sixaxis and a dildo at the same time.

I hope CoD suports this.

it needed it so it makes sense. I can remember seeing a demo of somebody playing RE5 with the 'wand' in the right hand and the controller in the left hand - it looked akward to say the least. Plus, those DS controllers are heavy unlike the sixaxis ones.

Man, the distribution from 3rd party support from here on out is sure gonna be interesting to watch. Now you've got two consoles with similar control setups (if this is true) in the PS3 and Wii, but one is far more powerful in hardware than the other.. Then you got Natal on 360, which has hardware nearer in power to PS3, but its control scheme will be entirely different from both the Wii and PS3. Then of course you still have the traditional control schemes for all 3 consoles, plus you've now got the balance board and soon vitality sensor only on Wii. If I'm a 3rd party, I'm thinking "WTF do I do now??"

yay i can't wait till they show it off!!

it's the future of handheld
