I hate hate hate bureaucratic red tape, nonsensical rules that punch common sense in the face, risk management taken to reductio ad absurdum. I want to shoot a banker right now.
I'm buying a house, after downpayment I am getting a mortage for 113,000 dollars. I am 100 dollars short. My 113,000 dollar loan is being gummed up by 100 dollars, in fact not even 100 dollars, I have the 100 dollars, rather it is being halted because of the source of the 100 dollars. My contract says that the closing date will be on March 5th, if we cannot close by March 5th the whole contract must be re-negotiated. I set down a specific amount of money for the down payment, and also set aside money for the closing costs, they also want me to have a the first months mortage ready at closing. That is not a problem, but as of yesterday I did not have enough money for the first months mortage. I will get my paycheck friday, but they won't send the paper work through until I have the money in my account. If the paperwork gets started friday (or more likely monday) it will not be ready by the fifth. They will not just take the 100 dollars out of my downpayment, my downpayment is now set in stone. Out of the thousands of dollars I am giving them, none of it is transferable, it has to be a brand new 100 dollars. Not a problem, I just transfer 100 dollars from my credit card to my bank account to get things moving, and I will just pay that off when I get my paycheck. I get called back saying that that is not a valid source of income. If I got the 100 dollars as a gift from a family member, that would be perfectly acceptable. But not my credit card, that is not a valid 100 dollars. That is taking out a loan to pay for a new loan. 100 dollars.
Out of the thousands of dollars in my bank account, and the good faith money I've already put down, my 113,00 dollar loan is being held up because of where I got a particular 100 dollars in my bank account, and how soon I can replace that 100 dollars with a different 100 dollars. Because of this things will be delayed indefinitely, contracts will be redrawn, I will have to redo and re-sign a metric fuckton of paperwork, I will have to pay an extra months rent at my current place, because some protocol being followed to the tee by some bereaucratic jack ass banker questions what the timing and source of a tiny fraction of the money being given to them says in a formula about my risk as a home owner. I am going to burn something to the ground.
