OUCH

I refuse to believe it deserves that score

The production values ALONE should make it deserve over a 5 at the minimum.

Good game or not, that's just a horrible thing to say.

Are you saying just because a game has a lot of money or effort poured into it should automatically be set to a certain level?

I'm not saying Heavy Rain deserves that score, I don't know, I haven't played it, but to say it should get a minimum 5 for the production values alone is just flat out stupid.

When people talked about 2012 (the film) being an awesome movie, it was ONLY about the production values of the CGI world destruction. The movie literally had almost nothing else.... so yeah, production values like those give them quite a few points.

No, they don't.  I know Heavy Rain is advertised more as an interactive movie and all but it's still a game.  A game can still have incredibly high production values and be ass.

Three games that come up right off the top of my head are Lair, Too Human, and Lost: Via Domus.

Lair-- it was meant to show off the power of the PS3 and was touted as this super beautiful game with a fantastic score and cinematic events.  Everything production side was pretty top notch, too bad the game was terrible.

Too Human-- 10 year production cycle later with more hype than most games dreamed up and a pretty high production values and it was a giant embarassement.  Such an awful game.

Lost: Via Domus-- it may not have been a big budget game like the above two but it had pretty high production values, especially for a movie/TV show based game.  There was a fair amount of hype leading up to it (if you liked Lost) and it turned out to be one of the worst games of this generation.

So no, you don't get an automatic pass for production values.

Again, not even trying to imply that Heavy Rain might be bad or in any way compared to those above three mistakes, it has an 89 at the moment so I assume it's good, I'm just saying production values don't make the game.

Lost was a good game for fans of the show. I loved it.

You're probably not a real fan ;)

I liked the story of Lost: Via Domus, but I think I would have liked it a lot more if I had just skipped the terrible game and read a FAQ.

Guys..I have seen every season of Lost at least 5 times,it is my favorite series by far, and I have to tell you: That game sucked balls....

Pfff...

The graphics were great and the ambience was as awesome as the one of the show. I was seriously scared of the black smoke XD

Taking pictures was cool. Totally Lost related.

He's joking about the Lost game, right? Right? Bad. Love Lost. Seen every episode multiple times. All of them.

That game was a major disappointment.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

No, I'm not joking in any way at all.

I would rather watch six hours of Dane Cook than play through that game again.

-edit-

And yes, I'm am a giant Lost fan.  I've watched every season multiple times and Lost is about the only show that I will watch Live.  When I'm bored, I actually read Lostpedia.  Hell, I even read it when I'm not bored.

The guy basically reviewed it like it was a movie, said the plot , story and voice acting weren't good enough, I haven't played Heavy Rain but for the type of game it's trying to be those things are important

The game isnt for everyone, the average gamer will dislike it and call it boring.

All I can say is that I just "played" through the most intense and scary video game moment in my entire gaming career thanks to Heavy Rain. There wasn't a single zombie, demon, or metroid to be found. Heavy Rain may not be for everybody but for me, this game is the truth. I doubt I'm even 20% done with the game, yet.

I'm a believer.

Well... After watching a friend play Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain... Barely anything has changed. It does feel one dimensional, boring, and uncreative. Hell i dont consider this "game" nor the other one a game.

Are people bashing this just for something to do? Because I thought it looked boring, but I played the demo and it was fantastic. They couldn't have made it better in my opinion.

hey linkasf, play it before you deem it "not a game."
thats like saying coke tastes bad without ever drinking one

It's reviews like this that makes taking the median review score a better review indicator than the mean review score for Metacritic.

For most games the median and mean review scores are the same or within .05/10 so it doesn't really make much difference. But for some games the difference between mean and median can be as much as 0.4/10, and in an industry where the current review structure puts a great deal of emphasis on the difference between an 8.6 game vs a 9.0 game (I just checked and the median score for PS3 Bayonetta is 90 whereas the metacritic score is 86) a 0.4 skewing by a few outlandishly low scores can be a big deal for some games.

I bet the median review score for HR will be 9/10 whereas the mean review score will be 8.7 - 8.8. Not a big deal perhaps but having that lovely looking 9 associated with a game is a rather nice to see for those who really like the game.
