Forums - Sony - My Short, Simple and Sweet Spoiler-Free Review of HEAVY RAIN

Like some people I was afraid that David Cage and Quantic Dream would take Heavy Rain in the same direction they did Indigo Prophecy and completely ruin the story. To be Frank, Heavy Rain doesn't and it creates a brilliant narrative and universe. This truly is a unique experience and if your gaming tastes include more than FPS, Kiddie and Fighting games. THIS IS FOR YOU!

Pros:
Brilliant, Believable and consistent Story
Brilliant Characters
Incredible Amount of Replay ability
Outstanding Character Models
Brilliant Use of The Six-axis

Cons:
Clunky Controls, Walking can be a chore sometime
Some Environments don't look as good as the Characters themselves
Voice Acting is a bit spotty, as Some characters don't sound like they are actually from the actual setting of the story. (I.E. The game takes place in America and some actors clearly sound as if they are from Europe)

Outcome:
Despite the cons, Quantic Dream has delivered on their promised on a new, unique cinematic experience. If your a fan of gaming, new experiences or incredible story telling. Heavy Rain is the game for you. If you're looking for something to keep you busy until Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III drop, this title will keep you busy for a while.

9.3/10

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

How about the gameplay ? (difficulty, learning curve, fun factor, is the interest evened throughout the experience, etc. I mean the things that matter ...)

ok...here's my initial impressions after playing the first 3 chapters

Graphics - nothing mgs4 or uncharted 2 havent done but still nice
Music/Sounds - there's a sound track? DAMN! didn't notice
Gameplay - no run button and jump button = FAIL
Story - must...find...out...what...will...happen...next
Replayability - beats me...have yet to finish it
Others - i can pee? WTF?!! HAHAHAHA

i give this game a one twinky and a chocolate milkshake

-Probably the best faces I've ever seen in a game (sometimes. it seems like the models vary depending on the scenario).

-truly incredible cinematic atmosphere. It's easy to create an alien world. This world feels like MY world.

-Great voice acting. Some voices from the demo seem improved.

-easy learning curve. After fighting with the demo's controls, the actual game is a breeze (even though they are probably the same controls). If you fail to do something, it won't be because of the controls.

I don't know how replayable the game is but I love it right now. It's delivered on everything I'd hoped for. I just wish the first hour wasn't an update/install.

9.5/10 (after 2.5 hours). I expect to be blown away by game's end.

sucks you in.
that is all.

That voice acting makes no sense. Unless you know for certain that the character is from that area? What if they were originally from Europe but moved?
