And the debunking continues. So the number could possibly even include the PSP as well as the PS2.
Also, the increase was only for the top 10 retailers. So it may very well have been retailer orders and not consumer purchases. Combine that with the Pachter comments about the numbers not matching. Wow, Stringer really stepped in it this time.

PS3 Sales Boost Not So Big After All?
The PS3 has had a sales spike but it doesn't appear to be as big as we thought initially. The weekly 100,000 units sold total included all PlayStation consoles, not just PS3.

Earlier this week, we reported on an Associated Press story, which seemed to indicate that the PlayStation 3 was finally on a nice sales pace after the introduction of the $399 model. GameDaily BIZ and other media outlets were led to believe that Sony CEO Howard Stringer's 100,000 sold figure for the week ending November 11 was specific to the PS3. Apparently it was not.
Bloomberg.com found out from Sony Computer Entertainment corporate spokesperson Kimberly Otzman that the 100,000 actually was inclusive of all PlayStation consoles, which we would assume means PS2 and PSP as well – not so impressive.
We've followed up with Otzman for further clarification and to inquire about an actual PS3 specific sales total. In a release regarding the PS3's birthday earlier today, Sony did note that "since the availability of the new 40GB and 80GB PS3 models, sales have increased by 192% at the top 10 retailers in North America."
