This has been discussed to death already

Yup, as long as VGChartz keeps the PS3 numbers at least 5-10% below the NPD numbers and the 360/Wii at least 5-10% above, there's nothing to worry about. ;)

Don't make things up. You only make yourself look foolish when you get basic facts wrong.

 VGCNPD USNPD tot*VGC/NPDT*
Xbox 360564,796366,000403,0001.4
DS550,399458,000504,0001.09
Wii512,477519,000580,0000.88
PSP305,017286,000315,0000.97
PS3156,128121,000133,0001.17
PS2161,797184,000202,0000.8

From the TheSource's analysis. Once you adjust for Canada, the PS3 is actually 17% overestimated and the Wii is 12% under. The 360 is off but that has been discussed to death.

Vgchartz have overstimated PS3 sales since the june pricecut. But too overstimate 360 with 40% is a bit overkill hope the numbers gets adjusted soon. That means PS3 and 360 November sales are probably overstimated again in the US. Did not know NPD numbers came out.

Don't worry PS3 fans I recon Vgcharts has well undertracked PS3 sales and they really currently stand at about 16 billion consoles sold, or was that in a dream some Sony executive had last night but thoght he would report as fact anyway.

Lol, quick.. jump! Gotta defend the site!

People can't take a joke anymore. Sad.

Took six people too...

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Well, if it was a joke, it failed too. You can't criticize people for reacting to what seems to be just another fanboyish complaint about this site. I know you did use a smiley, but so do many of the sarcastic posts.

Kids these days... *shakes head*

Andir, if you're going to post obviously incorrect facts, don't bitch when people call you on it. Consider this a warning.

And the debunking continues. So the number could possibly even include the PSP as well as the PS2.

Also, the increase was only for the top 10 retailers. So it may very well have been retailer orders and not consumer purchases. Combine that with the Pachter comments about the numbers not matching. Wow, Stringer really stepped in it this time.

PS3 Sales Boost Not So Big After All?

The PS3 has had a sales spike but it doesn't appear to be as big as we thought initially. The weekly 100,000 units sold total included all PlayStation consoles, not just PS3.

Posted by James Brightman on Friday, November 16, 2007

Earlier this week, we reported on an Associated Press story, which seemed to indicate that the PlayStation 3 was finally on a nice sales pace after the introduction of the $399 model. GameDaily BIZ and other media outlets were led to believe that Sony CEO Howard Stringer's 100,000 sold figure for the week ending November 11 was specific to the PS3. Apparently it was not.

Bloomberg.com found out from Sony Computer Entertainment corporate spokesperson Kimberly Otzman that the 100,000 actually was inclusive of all PlayStation consoles, which we would assume means PS2 and PSP as well – not so impressive.

We've followed up with Otzman for further clarification and to inquire about an actual PS3 specific sales total. In a release regarding the PS3's birthday earlier today, Sony did note that "since the availability of the new 40GB and 80GB PS3 models, sales have increased by 192% at the top 10 retailers in North America."

Even if that was the case - and assuming PS3 could continue these sales week after week - it still wouldn't be topping Wii's monthly sales for October.

These sorts of half truths and spin work for sony.

Press reports on the PS3 have been really positive for the last month or so, often just printing sony press releases. And that will help sway people without any special interest in computer games.

This is what sony are good at (or at least had been prior to the PS3 launch).
